Job Summary
The Hospitalist provides care to hospitalized patients in the inpatient units following established standards and practices. Clinical problems treated by the Hospitalist may include, though are not limited to health maintenance, common acute illnesses, management of stable chronic disease, and patient / family education consistent with the community standard for primary care providers.

Relationships
Reports To : Medical Director, Hospitalist Program
Other Contacts : Medical Staff Members, patients and patients’ families, public, and hospital employees.
Scope
Machinery or Equipment Used :
Computer, telephone, wheelchair, gurney, fax, copier, electronic monitoring, treatment device, medication dispenser – Omnicell, SARA lift, wheeled carts, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment necessary to perform duties within the limits of their training, experience and granted privileges.
Physical Demands
Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing / walking. Lifts, positions, pushes and / or transfers patients. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling or crouching. Ability to move quickly in response to emergency care situations.
Working Conditions
Conditions where there is potential for danger to life and health in dealing with violent / infectious patients. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Regularly exposed to risk of blood borne diseases, hazards from electrical equipment, housekeeping cleaning agents or chemicals from contaminated patients. May be exposed to unpleasant patient or department conditions. Subject to pressures of multiple calls / interruptions and crisis situations.
Required Protective Equipment
Ergonomically correct computer equipment, as well as PPE required on a case by case basis to perform appropriate patient care (eye protection, face protection, goggles, mask, gown, non-sterile medical gloves and sterile medical gloves).
