    Job Summary

    Perform a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled labor in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of County facilities, including plumbing, mechanical, welding, masonry, and basic electrical and HVAC work. Act as a single point of contact with department and contractors, lead work crews on repair and maintenance projects, and examine the work of others to verify compliance with quality and safety standards under basic supervision.

    Work in this classification requires an individual to be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily.     Typical Classification Essential Duties

  • Perform a wide variety of skilled and semi-skilled facilities maintenance and repair tasks, including plumbing, mechanical, masonry, locks, framing, drywall, and basic electrical and HVAC work; operate hand and power tools.
  • Lead assigned projects and manage work hours and costs.
  • Examine the work of Facilities Maintenance staff to verify quality and safety standards.
  • Complete work orders, identify material and equipment needs, order supplies, and process work authorization documents.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on plumbing and electrical systems and repair building components.
  • Maintain relationships with contractors and communicate the county's needs.
  • Maintain grounds and landscaped areas and operate equipment in accordance with safety regulations.
  • Perform maintenance within scope of authority and notify supervisors of any issues beyond scope.
  • Maintain records and logs, enter data into computer systems, and prepare reports as required.
  • Inspect work sites to ensure safety rules are followed and equipment is in safe condition.
  • Follow safety rules and instructions, report hazards and emergencies.
  • Respond to emergencies as directed and assist with inventory as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality of work-related issues and restricted information.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
  • Minimum Requirements to Perform Work

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Four years of facilities maintenance experience in one or a combination of trades including plumbing, mechanical, masonry, locks, framing, drywall, painting, and basic electrical or HVAC.
  • Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may substitute for the minimum requirements.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Valid Arizona Driver's License.
  • Structural Pest Control Certification.
  • Plumbing Certification.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of complex construction and repair practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, tools, equipment, and supplies used in facilities maintenance.
  • Knowledge of federal and state safety rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions, including proper handling of chemicals and OSHA MSDS for hazardous chemicals.
  • Skill in estimating materials, time, parts, and equipment for projects.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining tools and equipment safely.
  • Ability to maintain accurate repair and maintenance records and read blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to follow and enforce safety standards in work areas.
  • Ability to work independently to complete daily activities according to schedule.
  • Physical Demands

    The work is heavy and requires exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. The work also requires climbing, crawling, crouching, bending, grasping, reaching, repetitive motion, lifting, standing, and operating vehicles or equipment. Visual and mental acuity are required.

    Work is performed in a dynamic environment requiring adaptability to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
