Cash Register Operator
The primary purpose of this position is to operate a cash register scanning system to check out items and to receive payment for purchases made in a DeCA commissary. Responsibilities include operating an electronic checkout system, making change, verifying change funds, managing change machines, assisting customers, counting cash and negotiable instruments, preparing accountability reports, managing self-check-out registers, changing register tape, and clearing routine equipment and scanning jams on registers.
To qualify, you must meet the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) qualifications for series 2091 and additional requirements by the announcement closing date. You can qualify through experience, education, or a combination of both. Experience : Six (6) months of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of this position. OR Education : One (1) full year of successfully completed education above high school at an accredited business, secretarial, technical school, junior college, college, or university. Transcripts are required if relying on education, in whole or in part, to qualify. OR Combination of experience and education : To calculate the combination, divide your total months of experience by 12, then divide your semester hours by 60 and add the two percentages. If the total is 100%, you meet the minimum qualifications through a combination of experience and education.
Physical requirements include standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing for prolonged periods, and lifting, pushing, pulling, carrying, and handling items weighing up to 25 pounds independently and occasionally over 25 pounds with assistance.

The minimum qualifications for this position are GS-03, with occasional overtime. The position is nonexempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is covered by the bargaining unit. Education : You MUST provide transcripts and / or other documentation to support your educational claims. Foreign education may be qualifying if deemed equivalent by a private organization or a U.S. accredited college or university has given full credit for the foreign courses. Documents must be in English or include an English translation.
