  • Job Summary

    The Nationally Accredited Interpreter Preparation Program Faculty teaches a minimum of 15 credits each in the fall and spring semesters, combining lecture and skills courses. Responsibilities include developing syllabi, instructional materials, activities, and assessments, as well as collaborating with colleagues within the discipline, department, and college. Faculty align instruction with the national accrediting body (Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education) and fulfill service commitments, such as committee work, leadership roles, or community engagement, in consultation with the Department Chair and Dean. Onsite, in-person instruction is required.

    The successful candidate will begin in Fall 2026.

    Essential Functions

  • Supervise, instruct, and evaluate students' understanding of the subject matter in classroom and / or lab settings, supporting learners with a range of abilities, experiences, and educational backgrounds to promote academic success
  • Engage in the academic life of the college by participating in District-wide, campus, and departmental / program activities
  • Remain current in the occupational field through professional development
  • Develop written syllabi / course outlines and course materials
  • Evaluate knowledge of subject matter including grading and monitoring of student's scholastic records
  • Maintain five (5) or more academic support hours for students weekly
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Five (5) years of occupational experience in the following fields : interpreting pedagogy, research in interpreting, interpreter training, linguistics, ASL and English linguistics, interpreting theories, translation and interpreting studies

    OR

    Three (3) years of occupational experience in the following fields as well as a Bachelor's degree : interpreting pedagogy, research in interpreting, interpreter training, linguistics, ASL and English linguistics, interpreting theories, translation and interpreting studies or related fields

    OR

    A Master's degree or higher in the teaching field

    OR

    A Master's degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credits in the teaching field

    OR

    A Master's degree or higher in any field with a combination of 24 upper division and / or graduate credits in the teaching field

    OR

    A Journeyman Certification in the following fields such as interpreting pedagogy, research in interpreting, interpreter training, linguistics, ASL and English linguistics, interpreting theories, translation and interpreting studies. Current professional interpreter certification (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf [RID] or Board for Evaluation of Interpreters [BEI]) and state licensure (must provide a copy with applicant material).

    Upper division / undergraduate credits in the following fields : interpreting pedagogy, interpreting and translating studies, interpreting theories, research in interpreting, interactive interpreting, K-12 interpreting, simultaneous interpreting, consecutive interpreting, translation

    Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in ASL / English Interpreting Pedagogy, ASL / English interpreting, ASL Linguistics, Deaf Studies or related field
  • Multiple certifications and / or master level certifications (Board for Evaluation of Interpreters [BEI] Master, Certified Deaf Interpreter [CDI], National Interpreter Certification [NIC] Master)
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in classroom instruction using different modalities, preferably using innovative active learning methodologies
  • Native or near-native proficiency in American Sign Language with demonstrated ability to converse fluently in high level professional and academic conversation in ASL
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with individuals across a wide range of backgrounds and lived experiences.
  • Experience using Learning Management Systems such as Blackboard or Canvas and GoReact
  • Special Working Conditions

  • MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visa
  • May require some evening or weekend teaching assignments
  • Full time faculty are on campus two or more days per week
