Job Description : The design engineer shall be responsible for supporting the Project Managers in fulfilling the design obligations of multiple ongoing projects.

Responsibilities :

• Daily communication with multiple Project Managers
• Reviewing architectural drawings to discern information relevant to the vertical transportation discipline, conveying this information to the Project Manager
• Reviewing construction documents to confirm that VDA recommendations are coordinated
• Creating and modifying drawings of vertical transportation elements, utilizing AutoCAD software and VDA standards
• Performing structural, electrical, and mechanical load calculations
• Coordinating with members of multi-disciplinary building design teams
• Preparing reports, memos, and e-mails regarding VDA design
• Researching manufacturer products for development of design standards
• Preparing specifications for designed vertical transportation system
• Assisting in the review of contractor bids and specifications for compliance with VDA design
• Reviewing vendor shop drawings and “Requests for Information” against VDA design
• Evaluating information for compliance : Using relevant information and individual judgment to determine whether design elements and communications to clients, comply with laws, governing codes, and, both industry-wide and internal, standards.
• Communication with external contacts : This includes, but is not limited to contactors, vendors, manufacturers, architects, and other engineering disciplines. Communication includes exchanges by e-mail, other written forms, phone conversation, and in person
• Performing on-site surveys of existing vertical transportation equipment

Skills : The following skills are considered essential to be an effective member of the VDA Design Services department :

Education : Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering required
