What You'll Do :
As the Manager of Communications and Outreach for the Surface Transportation group, you will lead a dedicated team in strategizing and planning communications for emerging transportation technologies. Your role will involve content creation, team management, and collaboration with both technical and client teams to effectively highlight and promote intelligent transportation systems and automated vehicle technologies in support of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) at the Saxton Transportation Operations Laboratory (STOL).
This position is based full-time at the customer site in McLean, VA.
Key Responsibilities Include :
- Develop and lead strategies that transition innovative research into national deployments.
- Create impactful branding for our team and emerging technologies to enhance industry recognition and advocate for widespread adoption.
- Establish metrics and data demonstrating the advantages of technologies, facilitating persuasive outreach to encourage industry adoption.
- Oversee scope, schedule, budget, staffing, and ensure quality production of materials across multiple communications projects.
- Mentor and manage a team of marketing and communications professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and excellence.
- Build strategic partnerships to enrich outreach efforts, enhance collaboration, and ensure consistent messaging.
- Direct communication deliverables, including presentations, digital content, social media posts, reports, and other materials.
- Lead the execution of comprehensive conference strategies, including booth design, session planning, and logistics management.
- Support business development through compelling proposals, client engagement, and effective project budgeting.
This role may require occasional travel to industry conferences and project sites within the U.S. to support outreach and testing activities.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience :
Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of communications and outreach experience, or a Master’s degree with 6+ years in the same field.Proven experience in guiding staff development to ensure professional growth and operational success.Strong project management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage numerous activities and deliverables while meeting deadlines.Experience executing scaled solutions within available timeframes and budget constraints.Proven track record of collaboration with technical teams, executives, and diverse stakeholders.Exceptional communication skills capable of influencing both internal and external audiences.A keen willingness to learn and adapt, actively applying feedback for personal and professional improvement.Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance, requiring three consecutive years of residency in the United States.Desired Skills and Experience :
Experience working with federal, state, or local government clients.Advanced knowledge or experience in transportation, engineering, automated vehicle technologies, and intelligent transportation systems.Familiarity with project management methodologies and tools.Insight into branding and audience engagement best practices.Expertise in creating accessible content, with knowledge of Section 508 compliance.Anticipated salary range for this role : $120,000-$155,000.
