Provide a variety of library services to support the work of the Branch Library including circulation, planning and presenting library programs, and basic reference duties while assisting library patrons at a public service desk.

Typically, 5hr. shifts 4 days a week
Responsibilities :
- Assist patrons in answering reference questions and in effective use of all library services, resources, and materials.
- Register patrons for library cards and maintain patron records; resolve questions relating to patron library records and problems concerning overdue or damaged material.
- Perform clerical tasks including check-out and check-in of library materials, placing holds on library materials, typing and compiling statistics, making change, preparing cash reports, handling book sale items, ordering supplies, performing minor book repairs, and recommending books for library purchase.
- Perform opening and closing procedures. Monitor and facilitate safety, smooth operation, and security of facility and resources; address incidents and issues when able, and report increasingly complex situations to a supervisor as needed.
- Plan and present programs and services for branch patrons of all ages including story hours for children ages 0-11, summer reading program activities, school tours, and recommending popular reading material for patrons of all ages.
- Support department publicity and promotional needs by working with supervisor to create and maintain program and informational flyers / website spotlights / electronic signage / social media posts and the like.
- Assist Librarian in providing training and technical direction to staff as needed.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of assisting library staff with uninterrupted continuity of operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
High school diploma or equivalent.Two (2) years library experience. One (1) year beyond the page level preferred. Associate degree in Library Science can substitute for experience.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious working relationships with other employees and to deal tactfully and courteously with outside entities and the general public.Working knowledge of personal computers including proficient use of Microsoft Word, Publisher, email, and Internet. Basic understanding of a networked system, database searching, personal electronic devices, graphic design software such as Canva and library automated circulation system is preferred.Experience working with children and programming.PREFERRED : Ability to have and maintain a valid driver's license and to meet insurance standards and maintain insurability under the Borough's insurance program.Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities :
Ability to deal with the public and staff in a tactful, courteous, and efficient manner.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and perform in front of groups, large and small.Ability to pay close attention to detail.Ability to create promotional materials.The Borough complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
