Position Summary

The Senior Accountant will play a pivotal role in managing the financial operations of The Core Companies. Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, this position will oversee accounting processes, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and manage partnership agreements and loan covenants. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, a solid background in accounting, and a passion for supporting affordable housing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

Assist in the timely and accurate completion of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial closings.

Ensure ownership interests in LLCs and LPs are properly accounted for.

Review intercompany and investment / equity accounting to ensure accurate entries.

Manage year-end audit and tax return processes for 15 audited entities by collaborating with property accountants, Asset Management and the CPAs.

Oversee financial reporting processes to meet deadlines established by investors.

Assist in preparing and submitting year-end financial reports and tax trial balances for multiple LLCs.

Support the preparation of annual and semiannual combined financial statements with auditors.

Asset Management

Work with property management accountants and Asset Management to ensure the timely and accurate preparation of year-end trial balances.

Verify that monthly accounting data from property accountants is accurately recorded in the Asset Management system.

Project Management

Ensure year-to-date job costs reflect actual project expenses, including proper charges, accruals, and adjustments.

Collaborate with development and accounting teams to determine eligible and ineligible costs.

Ensure project budgets and current financial projections reflect realistic job outcomes.

Monitor and prepare construction draw requests.

Compliance & Reporting

Coordinate internal and external audits and reviews, including preparing supporting documentation.

Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal tax reporting requirements.

Manage audit, tax return, and financial reporting processes to meet deadlines set by lenders and investors.

Prepare REO reports and contingent liability schedules on schedule.

Assist in recording all equity and financing events.

Process Improvement

Develop, implement, and enhance internal controls and accounting policies.

Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation preferred.

5+ years of progressive accounting experience.

Experience in affordable housing, real estate development, and partnership accounting.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Yardi, Viewpoint Spectrum) and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

Knowledge of GAAP.

Basic understanding of federal and state tax laws.

Soft Skills

Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
