The Transportation Specialist is responsible for creating outbound shipments, inspecting inbound bill of ladings for accurate information, communicating with the customer, carriers and drivers. Independent judgement and decision-making skills are needed to track inbound and outbound shipments, address issues with shipments and create and implement plan to correct issue. Address discrepancies in documentation pertaining to shipping and receiving.
Duties:
Prepare documentation for outbound shipping and audit inbound documentation for accuracy and address discrepancies
Oversee general billing and invoices and submit for payment
Ensure that all safety measures are being followed when trucks are being loaded and follow C-TPAT guidelines for shipping
Update and maintain excel spreadsheets on MS Teams as well as general filing to ensure all documents are accurate and complete
Partner with Warehouse staff to ensure that pick/put away processes are being done correctly and communicate issues with management/supervisors and provide correct process
Use discretion and independent judgment when working with and coordinating with shippers for pick up and delivery of parts and items and take action as needed to correct issues
Making decisions using independent judgment keeping into consideration company funds when picking transportation companies to avoid on-time delays, that could affect our customers production process
Backup for the Transportation Supervisor and perform the duties needed using good judgment and decision-making skills to address issues and take appropriate action
Monitor and follow up with carriers to report on daily shipments to ensure on-time pickups and deliveries and use good judgment to change delivery dates and times if needed based on customer needs
Communicate with Transportation Supervisor and warehouse team on status of inbound and outbound shipments and keep accurate data
Work with delivery drivers for proper documentation and handle discrepancies in paperwork and orders delivered
Responsible for inventory of trailers on site and investigate discrepancies
Miscellaneous duties as applied
Requirements:
High School Diploma, equivalency certificate or significant relevant or appropriate working experience
At least 2-year experience in warehouse/logistics or manufacturing preferred
Organized, detailed oriented and the ability to multi-task
Knowledge of material handling, warehouse operations and transportation desired
Reliable, dependable and able to work independently and make decisions
Effectively communicate both written and orally with customers, vendors, associates and management team
Ability to work independently, have good decision-making skills and use good judgment when making decisions keeping into consideration company budget and customer needs
Flexibility in order to perform other job functions and work other hours as needed to complete daily tasks and meet business/customer requests/needs
Experience with forklifts, tuggers, and pallet jacks desired
Experience and knowledge with Microsoft Word and Excel and Teams.
Knowledge of and experience with WMS such as AS400, ERP is preferred
This position requires that you stand and/or sit for long periods of time
Must be able to pull, lift and bend up to 20 lb
