Monday–Friday, 1 : 45 PM – 9 : 45 PM with weekend rotation
Every third week will include Saturday / Sunday shifts, with offset days off (Thursday / Monday or Friday / Tuesday)
Rotation example : Week 1 : Mon–Fri
Week 2 : Mon–Fri
Week 3 : Sat–Sun (with offset weekday days off)
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive healthcare services in a corrections medical center, overseeing the care of 20–60 bedridden inmates. This role involves direct patient care, administration of medications (including narcotics), coordination with physicians, supervision of healthcare staff, and participation in emergency response. The nurse will ensure accurate documentation, medication management, and compliance with healthcare policies and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct rounds to assess, plan, and evaluate patient care needs.
Administer medications and treatments, including specialized therapies (IV, chemotherapy, dialysis, wound care, oxygen therapy, blood transfusion, tube feeding, catheterization, suctioning, phlebotomy, and CPR).
Develop and implement patient care plans, while teaching healthcare principles to staff and patients.
Organize and oversee emergency response (“Code Blue”) procedures.
Supervise and direct healthcare staff, including aides and LPNs, during assigned shifts.
Assist physicians with diagnostic evaluations and medical care.
Perform clerical tasks, including charting, documentation of medications / treatments, incident / accident reports, Medicaid documentation, and inventory of controlled substances and equipment.
Coordinate external medical services such as outpatient appointments, exams, and prescriptions.
Manage administrative tasks, including ordering supplies, equipment, and maintaining communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Participate in meetings, serve as a liaison, and occasionally provide instruction or leadership in problem-solving initiatives.
Qualifications
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (correctional, acute care, or emergency preferred).
Strong knowledge of direct patient care, medication administration, and specialized nursing procedures.
Ability to work independently and supervise healthcare staff.
Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.
