Distinguishing Features of the Class
Supervises and directs staff involved in the enforcement of the Citys housing environmental health vector control noise odor graffiti zoning and public nuisance ordinances and other assigned regulations.
Acceptable Experience and Training
- Graduation from an accredited high school (or GED); and
- Three years of experience in housing zoning or environmental health code enforcement for the City of Des Moines or other similar city.
- One year of additional education may be substituted for up to one year of required experience.
Required Special Qualifications
Possession of a valid certification as a Property Maintenance Inspector (or its equivalent) OR both a (1) Housing Code Inspector and a (2a) Zoning Inspector or an (2b) Environmental Health Technician.Candidates for positions in this class must pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen.Possession of a valid Iowa Drivers License or evidence of equivalent mobility.Please note : Submittal of applicable certificates licenses out of state driving records and / or transcripts is required by the application deadline.
