Description

The primary purpose of this temporary position is to interview and assess potential youth and families for eligibility in the Community-Based Mentoring Program.. The role ensures that all documentation confidentiality and child safety standards are maintained with the highest level of integrity.

BBBS is seeking candidates who have evening and weekend hours with flexibility to work and schedule interviews on their own time. Preference will be given to candidates from the Twin Cities who are available to meet youth and families in person for interviews.

Job Details

Location : Hybrid Remote & On-site in Twin Cities Minnesota.

Hiring Salary Range : $20-22 Starting salary will depend on your skills and demonstrated readiness for the role.

Hours / Day : 1020 hours per week primarily during evenings and weekends including approximately 4 weekend hours per month. Although some flexibility exists scheduling must align with program needs and participant availability.

Job Type : Temporary Non-Exempt.

Supervisor : Assistant Manager of Enrollment & Matching.

Essential Job Functions

Interview and assess diverse families and youth for eligibility for the program. This includes :

  • Schedule and conduct in-depth virtual interviews with some in-person meetings preferred for local candidates.
  • Facilitate coaching conversations that reflect our values of belonging youth-centered continuous learning & improvement and relationships.
  • Apply child safety and risk management protocols at all times including fulfilling responsibilities as a mandated reporter.
  • Write comprehensive assessments based on interviews including objective observations mentor match recommendations and suggestions for additional support.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation while maintaining strict data protection standards.
  • Connect participants with other community resources and referrals as appropriate.
  • Participate in ongoing case consultations and caseload reviews to ensure program quality and consistency.

  • Adopt strengths-based perspectives when discussing specific groups or contexts particularly those historically marginalized.
  • Handle data from youth families mentors or other stakeholders with care ensuring secure and private maintenance.
  • Value and respect the unique backgrounds and experiences of individuals creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all within the organization.
  • Represent BBBS well in the broader community.
  • Requirements

    Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in social services or related field. Or meet one of the following qualifications :
  • Within 6 months of completing bachelors degree.
  • AA degree and 2 years relevant work experience.
  • No degree 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of youth development principles and family dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
  • Skilled in conducting interviews and writing clear comprehensive assessments.
  • Knowledgeable about mandated reporting requirements and best practices for child safety.
  • Provides warm responsive support to participants while maintaining professionalism and empathy.
  • Exercises sound judgment and decision-making abilities; adept at problem-solving.
  • Effective at managing appointments documentation and data.
  • Approaches work with cultural humility and an equity lens recognizing systemic barriers affecting participants in our program.
  • Goal-oriented with a commitment to quality accountability and measurable results.
  • Proficient with Google Workspace (Docs Sheets and related tools) for documentation and collaboration.
  • Physical Requirements

    The applicant can expect to sit in a normal seated position for extended periods of time by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.

    Big Brothers Big Sisters Twin Cities is the largest and oldest youth mentoring organization in the greater Twin Cities serving Hennepin Ramsey Anoka and parts of Dakota and Washington counties. Each year we match up to 2600 youth (Littles) and their families with caring adults (Bigs) who volunteer as youth mentors.

    We know all youth benefit from having another caring adult in their life as they experience lifes opportunities and challenges. Together with our community we want every young person to have a mentor be affirmed in who they are and explore who they want to be.
