Job Summary

This is a laboratory-based research position focusing on molecular and cellular mechanisms of brain vascular development and the development of brain microglia. By studying mice with inactivating mutations or specific transgenes, we can isolate the role of specific molecules involved in these processes / diseases. Under supervision, the candidate will be involved in investigating abnormal phenotypes and pathogenesis in animal models of stroke. Experiments include dissection and tissue analysis, DNA isolation and PCR genotyping, immunohistochemistry, microscopy (confocal, light sheet and live multiphoton), protein and RNA quantification, cell culture techniques, flow cytometry and cell sorting. The ideal candidate will be as excited about science as we are and interested in eventually pursuing graduate study or medicine with a focus on bench research.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $28.04 - $45.09 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care at UCSF provides compassionate, high quality, state-of-the-art care to critically ill children in a multidisciplinary setting. This environment supports our central mission of educating students, residents, and fellows. In addition, our faculty are actively involved in a wide variety of research to advance knowledge in the field of Pediatrics.

Required Qualifications

  • BA / BS degree in biology or chemistry or a related science, and

one or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position; and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Willingness to work with human biological samples
  • Knowledge of scientific equipment (centrifuge, pipettes, ultra-low freezers)
  • Strong computer skills including the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Preferred Qualifications

    Experience in :

  • Flow cytometry
  • Tissue sectioning and immunohistochemistry
  • Molecular skillset including : design and cloning of plasmid-based gene targeting constructs.
