Position Title : Intern

Potential Interactions :

Administration, Finance, Engineering, Building, Drinking Water Plant, Water Distribution, Sanitary Sewer, Street, Parks, and Recreation

Potential Supervisors :

Superintendents and Operations Managers of relevant departments

General Purpose :

The Administration Intern will assist the Department of Administration with the day-to-day operations of the municipality. The intern’s role will revolve heavily around research and analysis. Projects assigned throughout the internship are expected to vary in topic and will give the intern a greater understanding of the multiple dimensions and functions of local government.

Essential Duties :

• Complete projects that require conducting research on issues related to the municipality, analyzing data using tools such as Excel and possibly SQL or GIS, and drafting reports.
• Access and record information from outside sources, including governmental and state departments' websites.
• Assist in the development and preparation of reports, plans, presentations, maps, and other materials related to special projects.
• Present the status of projects and project findings to officials.
• Draft professional letters, memos, spreadsheets, reports, press releases, and other documents as needed.
• Proofread letters and documents.
• Review, interpret, and apply a variety of complex policies and procedures.
• Attend meetings as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Seeking Juniors or above majoring in Public Relations, Public Administration, Political Science, Law, Communications, or a related field. Excellent oral and written communication skills; Experience with Microsoft Office applications (including Access and Excel); Ability to conduct effective research and write reports; Ability to work in groups and independently to solve problems.
