Field Crew Supervisor

Job Title

Coordinates the activities of personnel, field crews and individuals in the maintenance and repair of public utilities and infrastructure including, but not limited to streets, traffic signs and markings, drainage systems, and other right-of-way maintenance. Performs inspections of public works complaints and documents in detail the scope, labor and materials needed to perform repairs or maintenance.

Responsibilities include :

• Inspect all requests called in by homeowners, including roadside weedeating, off-road weedeating, debris removal, drainage maintenance, storm drain repairs, potholes, snipe signs, traffic sign maintenance and off-road drainage projects.
• Works with Public Works Director to maintain all equipment used by workers.
• Maintains all fuel for equipment, and all supplies needed to complete job task.
• Supervise crews in the field and check completed jobsites
• Coordinate with 3rd party contractors regarding tasks that need to be done.
• Assists Public Works Administrator with Lucity by adding requests, reviewing work tasks
• Meet with Homeowners about their complaints.
• Assist Public Works Director with after hour call outs.
• Equipment and maintenance manager
• Performs manual labor with crews in the field when needed
• Performs periodic subdivision construction inspections.
• Works closely with HOAs to resolve Public Works issues in neighborhoods.
• Works closely with Council members and the Mayor to resolve any issues within the Public Works Department.
• Requests utility locates in coordination with engineering department.
• Coordinates the installation of special event banners and decorations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include :

Education and Experience :

High school diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent certificate of competency, and four years of experience in public works construction, maintenance, or operational activities, including one year of supervisory experience.

Substitutions :

Associate's degree in construction technology / management or comparable degree will substitute for two years of work experience; bachelor's degree in civil engineering or construction technology / management will substitute for four years of work experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certifications :

Must possess a State of Louisiana Regular Driver's License.

Stormwater Manager certification is required within a year of employment.

Key Skills / Competencies for this position :

Knowledge of basic principles of mathematics; applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations; methods and techniques of scheduling work assignments; methods and techniques for record keeping; occupational hazards and standard safety practices. Knowledge of the methods, practices and equipment used in a variety of public works maintenance, construction, repair and operational activities. Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to perform heavy manual work and equipment operation. Knowledge of engineering maps and records. Knowledge of stormwater management principles is preferred.

Ability to oversee and perform maintenance, repair and installation of traffic signs; safely operate a variety of tools and equipment used in maintenance and construction such as a laser level; estimate time and materials for completion of projects; work independently; keep records and logs; work as part of a team; make sound decisions within established guidelines; follow written and oral directions; observe safety principles and work in a safe manner; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to utilize a computer, including use of standard computer applications, and global positioning systems. Ability to read and interpret sketches, blueprints, and specifications.

Physical / Environmental Demands for this position, when such demands exist :

Must be available for regular standby assignments and emergency work. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to traffic and potentially hazardous conditions. In the event of a major weather event, this employee will be required to report to work, even if the weather event is in the evenings and / or weekends or on a holiday. This position comes with a company vehicle, which is to be used for business purposes only. Ability to lift 20 pounds.
