Description

The Commercial Construction Administrator will be responsible for administering construction-related aspects of the loan closing, construction funding, and loan servicing process for all commercial construction loans. This role involves direct interaction with members, addressing inquiries, preparing correspondence, and managing all forms of communication. This role collaborates closely with both the loan officer and the member to collect necessary documentation and support ongoing monitoring and reporting of the commercial loan portfolio.

Work Arrangement : This position is able to work onsite or hybrid at our East Lansing Headquarters.

Department Hours : Monday - Friday 8 : 30am-5 : 00pm ET.

An offer of employment with MSU Federal Credit Union and affiliates is contingent upon the agreed work arrangement (onsite / hybrid / remote) and work location. Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

Level I -

  • Ensure all required construction documentation is collected prior to loan closing.
  • Create, maintain, and enter construction loan disbursement files in the construction loan platform.
  • Evaluate draw requests and recommend approval or denial of funding.
  • Order and / or review due diligence reports such as title updates, inspection reports, environmental reports, third party budget reviews; flag issues for each draw request.
  • Track insurance requirements from loan closing through the construction period.
  • Monitor construction project timelines using a tracking schedule.
  • Provide basic guidance on construction risk management procedures to members and loan originators.
  • Serve as a liaison between lenders, members, and third parties to provide updates, resolve issues, and maintain proactive communication.
  • Manage an active construction pipeline of renewal loan requests while tracking maturing loans to ensure timely renewals.
  • Support property inspections and tracking for the commercial real estate portfolio.
  • Understand the Credit Union's policies and procedures to ensure compliance and accountability for managing operational risks. Adhere to established internal controls and procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and maintain the integrity of credit union operations.

  • Level II -

  • All the Commercial Construction Administrator I duties and responsibilities
  • Analyze construction data and inspection reports to identify issues and trends.
  • Monitor construction budgets and timelines, reporting delays or overruns.
  • Ensure compliance with construction loan policies; obtain necessary waivers.
  • Assist in reviewing environmental reports and documenting findings in memos.
  • Identify missing or inadequate documentation during loan closings and draw requests.
  • Review collateral documentation to ensure it aligns with loan requirements.
  • Monitor project compliance with approved budgets and contract service agreements.
  • Maintain awareness of updates to loan policies, construction regulations, and procedures.
  • Senior Level -

  • All the Commercial Construction Administrator I and II duties and responsibilities
  • Lead analysis and reporting of complex construction loan issues and risks.
  • Provide expert-level guidance on construction risk management and policy interpretation.
  • Review and make recommendations on significant policy exceptions and material issues.
  • Assess environmental risk for complex commercial projects and communicate findings.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of commercial construction projects, ensuring compliance and performance.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to improve construction loan administration processes.
  • Represent the Credit Union in communications with lead or participating lenders regarding construction risk.
  • Support audit readiness and ensure all documentation meets regulatory and internal standards.
  • Handle all other duties as assigned, including special projects or process improvements.
  • Job Requirements :

    Level I, II and Senior :

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in business, finance, sales, or related field, or equivalent combination of work experience and education.
  • Experience with computer operations and required systems.

  • Physical Demands and Work Environment :

  • May be required to remain in a stationary position for an extended period.
  • Ability to operate standard office technology, equipment, and tools, which may include many hours of computer and phone usage.
  • Occasionally needs to move about inside of an office area.
  • Exposure to potentially hazardous condition, i.e. robbery. Receives detailed instructions and procedures to be followed to minimize the exposure.
  • Frequently moves equipment or materials weighing up to 25 pounds for transport between areas of buildings.
  • This position can work in hybrid or onsite working arrangements.
