POSITION PURPOSE :

Serves as a critical member of the school team in supporting the speech / language / communication needs of students. Provides high quality specialized assessment and instruction, implementing Individual Educational Plans (IEP) to students with disabilities in the school setting. Maintains confidentiality and complies with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, guidelines, and procedures as they relate to the special education program throughout the district. Provides protection against discrimination for individuals with disabilities and general education students as part of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) process. Ensures vision aligns with the mission, vision, and core beliefs of the Wake County School System (WCPSS) Strategic Plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

• Comprehensive knowledge of the theory, principles, and methods of speech-language pathology;
• Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
• Strong interpersonal relationship and customer service skills;
• Ability to work independently as well as within a team concept;
• Ability to independently resolve problems;
• Ability to organize information from multiple sources;
• Ability to select, learn, and administer appropriate assessment and treatment activities;
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, external agencies, and the public.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automobile equipment.
