What You’ll Be Doing

Responsibilities vary by setting, but may include :

• Completing comprehensive evaluations for adults with dysphagia, cognitive-communication disorders, aphasia, dysarthria, and other communication / swallowing impairments.
• Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans aligned with medical status, functional goals, and interdisciplinary care needs.
• Providing direct therapy in acute care, outpatient, or home health settings, focusing on swallowing safety, communication recovery, voice therapy, and cognitive rehabilitation.
• Conducting instrumental swallow assessments (FEES / VFSS) where credentialed and applicable.
• Monitoring patients’ progress and adapting plans of care based on medical changes, caregiver involvement, and discharge planning needs.
• Collaborating with physicians, nursing, dietitians, PT / OT, care managers, and family members to support safe transitions and continuity of care.
• Documenting evaluations, treatment sessions, progress notes, and physician communications in accordance with facility and regulatory standards.
• Staying current with evidence-based practices and participating in CEU and professional development opportunities.
