American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring a CA RN license, BLS and PALS certifications, and recent PICU experience.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in an 8-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit within an acute care hospital settingManage pediatric patients with diagnoses such as respiratory failure, dehydration, seizures, suicide attempts, overdoses, poisoning, ventilators, and diabetic ketoacidosisNurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 2 with an average census of 2Night shifts with 12-hour shift length; every other weekend requiredFloating required to general pediatrics and burn unit for non-burn pediatric patients, with voluntary floating to the NICU; travelers are first to floatUse Cerner EMR for charting and Spacelab telemetry monitors with nurses reading their own stripsUnit utilizes vents, Cpap, Ramcan, Bipap, and HFNC; RT and pharmacy support available 24 / 7PICU-floors orientation includes 2 shifts on the PICU, 1 on peds, and 1 on the burn unit for pediatric careOn-call standby may be required if census is low and scheduledResponsibilities include monitoring, assessment, and management of critically ill pediatric patients with complex conditions and therapiesMust wear navy blue scrubsNurses are rarely required to act as charge and there are no nurse aides on the unitPediatric hospitalist intensivists are in-house 24 / 7Holiday coverage required for two out of three major holidays during contractNo IV team; nurses perform their own IV insertionsCandidates may not have been employed by the affiliated health system within the past year unless previously employed through an outside firmReferences required : one supervisor from the past year and one peer or supervisor from the past three years, including employment dates and eligibility for rehireValid driver’s license required for consideration\n \n Requirements\n
Active CA RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not acceptedMinimum 2 years of recent Pediatric ICU experience required; 3 years total RN experience preferredCertifications required : BLS and PALS; must be current and activeAbility to manage ventilators and titrate drips such as insulin, sedative agents, heparin, and electrolyte replacementsExperience using Cerner EMR preferredNot open to first-time travelers\n Benefits\n
