Overview

POSITION TITLE : Immigration Paralegal

REPORTS TO : Director of Family Support Programs and Staff Attorney

STATUS : Non-exempt, regular 40 hours a week

LOCATION : ReWA MLK office

Summary

ReWA advocates for social justice, public policy changes, and equal access to services while respecting cultural values and the right to self-determination.

As Immigration Paralegal, you will conduct administrative tasks in support of ReWA Asylum Seeker contracts assisting the staff attorney in administrative tasks for asylum seekers who are applying for asylum, TPS, Green Card, immigration status adjustments.

Successful candidates for this position are result-oriented; and will have a strong skill set for performing administrative tasks possess excellent knowledge excel, SharePoint, word, outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with all administrative tasks supporting the staff attorney's.
  • Prepare application packets to be submitted, copying and bundling.
  • Provide interpretation services as needed.
  • Maintain accurate files and paperwork as requested by the staff attorney.
  • Perform filing, organization for clients that staff attorney is working with.
  • Basic communication with clients, emails, phone and text messages.
  • Printing material and connecting with clients when anything is missing and needs to be collected.
  • Preparing Know Your Rights info to be sent out to clients.
  • Coordinating with staff when necessary for further documents or information required for the staff attorney.
  • Calendaring and scheduling clients.
  • Attend all meetings and training necessary for the position.
  • Other duties, as assigned by the Senior Director Family Empowerment and staff attorney.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 1 year experience working with immigrants and refugees including administrative responsibilities; ability to establish effective working relationships with multi-cultural staff, clients.
  • 1 year of experience with immigration status adjustments.
  • Strong English proficiency, in writing and orally.
  • AA or BA degree in human services / social services or related field
  • Proficient computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office software, especially WORD, Excel and Outlook.
  • Effective prioritizing, organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Highly positive with enthusiastic style; capable of motivating clients
  • Must be self-starter and dependable with strong problem-solving skills and good judgment.
  • Ability and willing to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
