Position Information

Under direct supervision, receives training and performs professional case work for the Washoe County Human Services Agency; and performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, criminal justice, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field; OR license to practice Social Work in the State of Nevada or eligibility for licensure in the State of Nevada.

License or Certificate

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.

About the position :

Duties include facilitating child and family team meetings with families, caseworkers, and professional stakeholders, including public defenders, district attorneys, CASA's, child attorneys, domestic violence advocates, juvenile probation officers, out of jurisdiction / state child welfare agencies, and service providers.

These meetings take place throughout the life of the case. The meeting participants often have different perspectives, and the families and children experience a variety of emotions that may present in these meetings. The facilitator is responsible for validating the experience of the participants, allowing the group to hear different ideas and perspectives, and moving the meeting towards resolution.

The meeting facilitator is responsible for documenting the content of the meetings and inputting case notes into WCHSA child welfare system. Additionally, the meeting facilitator may be responsible for scheduling / rescheduling meetings.

The ideal candidate will have training and / or experience in conflict resolution, experience navigating group dynamics in a team setting, ability to multi task, a history of working well within a team, and child welfare or case management experience.

Conditions of Employment

Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Per the Washoe County Background and Reference Checks Policy, new and rehired employees are required to submit to a fingerprint based background investigation. Effective January 1, 2025, the $39.00 fee associated with this background investigation will be paid by the employee (if applicable) and deducted automatically from the first paycheck. Employment is contingent upon the results of the background check, although a record of conviction will not necessarily bar an applicant from employment.

This is not a classified position and is not covered by a collective bargaining unit.

"Intermittent hourly employee" means a person who is not employed on a fixed schedule and works on an "on-call" basis. Please be advised that upon appointment an Intermittent Hourly employee cannot work a regularly scheduled work schedule and must work less than 1040 hours in any fiscal year. Intermittent Hourly employees are "at will" employees and serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.

Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.
