Deputy Court Clerk / In-Court Clerk, Floater - Criminal

Performs clerical and support functions related to the court system. Work is performed under well established guidelines set forth by Idaho Code and requires a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Distinguishing features of the class include a broad range of knowledge and highly complex clerical tasks in addition to directly assisting In-Court Clerks and Judges. This position will not be assigned to a specific judge full-time. The duties assigned will range from being in court a majority of the time, to assisting with out of court tasks and may fluctuate based on the necessity of the division. The work involves a great deal of independence and requires self-discipline to complete timely and within established guidelines.

Essential functions include : maintaining judge's calendar, preparing case files, assisting the judge in every courtroom proceeding by providing onsite support, preparing courtrooms with proper equipment and forms, administering oaths, maintaining and logging exhibits submitted to the court, taking minutes of all courtroom proceedings, drafting and preparing judgments, orders and other decisions from court, operating office equipment, creating, preparing and processing legal forms, form letters, reports and similar materials, sorting, stamping, recording and filing a wide variety of legal and judicial materials, processing all types of cases and documents presented to court, reading and routing incoming mail and assembling files and other materials to facilitate reply, explaining policies and procedures, creating case files, updating databases and reviewing documents, serving as receptionist, answering telephone and providing general information regarding court filings and procedures, handling database management for specific areas of law, participating in training as assigned, assisting in troubleshooting issues that arise, assisting other court clerk positions with day to day questions and tasks related to court proceedings, addressing challenging concerns from the public, assisting supervisor in handling administrative tasks, performing highly specialized tasks related to sensitive court processes, proofreading legal documents, memorandums and other materials for accuracy and punctuation, and assisting in facilitating judge and courtroom schedules.

Additional functions include cross training in other areas to perform the work of others for vacations, illness, etc., flexibility of scheduling to include overtime to cover court, and performing related functions as required.

Job requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, minimum of 1 year related experience, knowledge of the methods and procedures of the court system, extensive knowledge of legal procedures documents and terminology, skill in the operation of computers, skill in time management, ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions, ability to communicate verbally and in writing, ability to maintain confidentiality, and ability to maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and the public.

Work environment and physical demands include work performed onsite at the Ada County Courthouse, may be required to lift or move up to 25 pounds, work performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions, requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to permit the employee to function in a general office environment and accomplish tasks.
