Overview
This position is to prevent crime, enforce laws, protect life and property, preserve the peace, and apprehend criminals. Responsibilities include general patrol duties, operating an emergency vehicle, observing traffic law violations, assisting stranded motorists, responding to calls for service, performing preventative patrols, pursuing and apprehending violators of laws, issuing citations or custodial arrests, responding to accidents, rendering first aid, completing accident and criminal activity reports, and testifying in criminal and civil court cases.
May be assigned specialized duties including but not limited to executing misdemeanor and felony warrants of arrest; fingerprinting; presenting crime prevention programs; investigating criminal offenses; working in an undercover capacity; providing residential and commercial security surveys; serving as Court Bailiff for Municipal Court; and serving as a School Resource Officer.
May be assigned to divisions such as Tactical, Training, Investigations, Juvenile, Narcotics, and Field Operations. Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalent.
Some experience is required. Decisions regarding policy implementation may be made. Contacts may involve stressful or controversial interactions with the public requiring tact and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal situations.
Responsibilities
- Perform duty assignments after receiving general instructions on methods, procedures, and desired end results; some discretion in selecting among a few identifiable choices; assignments are usually reviewed upon completion.
- Apply comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with analytical judgment and decision-making abilities relevant to the organization's work environment.
- Possess intermediate reading ability for papers, periodicals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias; basic arithmetic; and intermediate ability to write reports, business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper formatting and grammar.
- Maintain knowledge of modern law enforcement practices; understand criminal structures and traffic ordinances; employ investigation techniques; follow departmental policies and city / state / federal laws; safely operate a motor vehicle in routine and emergency conditions.

Valid driver's license with good driving record and ability to maintain it while employed.Must obtain a TCOLE license and Basic Certificate within twelve months of employment and maintain throughout employment.Work Environment
Work is primarily in a field environment with exposure to weather conditions, hazardous situations and materials. Physical demands are medium and require standing, walking, running, climbing, jumping, crawling, crouching, etc. May be required to move heavy objects over 170 lbs.
