JOB SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the Director of the Program to which assigned, the nurse practitioner provides care, program coordination and case management for in and out patients from birth to 21 years of age

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION

Provides medical care to all patients of the hospital while on duty. Provides prompt assistance with family and hospital staff generated questions and problems while on duty. Notifies the patient's Attending Physician of any significant change in medical status. Provides prompt cardiopulmonary resuscitation when indicated. Follows current hospital and departmental, policies and procedures in all aspects of medical care. Assure privacy and confidentiality of all medical and personal information. Making rounds at least one time a day on all patients. Additional patient contact will be determined as needed based on the patient's clinical status. Documenting all medical problems, assessment and action taken thereof on all inpatients and outpatient accordance with the MWPH Medical Staff Bylaws. Adhere / comply with all applicable TJC, CARF and other regulatory standards.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Educational Requirements Graduate of an approved Pediatric Nurse Practitioner training program Licensure, Certification and Registration Work Orientation and Experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Other Requirements Specific to Assigned Area Current licensed Registered Nurse in the State of MD Nurse Practitioners Certification CPR and PALS certification Minimum two years of clinical experience Responsible for identifying and reporting problems as they occur to the Medical Director for corrective action as required. Responsible for participating in the responding to any problem identified through Department of Medicine quality care monitors. On occasion, be asked to admit late patients and complete H&P and admission orders on these patients Communicating with daytime staff any updates and needs of patients and families.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Supervision Received Reports to the Clinical Program Director and the Vice President Medical Affairs Supervision Exercised General guidance and direction to members of the clinical team and to care providers Has authority to direct the deliberations and consensus of the clinical team and to reinforce participation of team members in the team

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Effective communication skills which demonstrate courteous, responsive, and discrete treatment of patients, families, colleagues and other staff members

TOOLS / EQUIPMENT USED

Operates computer using Meditech software, Windows Office software (Excel, Word, etc) Uses on line health information network system, electronic and medical records

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT / WORKING CONDITIONS

Typical health care environment. Routine stress due to multiple demands, shifting priorities and time frames. High risk of exposure to body fluids, infectious waste or blood borne disease. Employees will be instructed in the proper use of personal additional protective equipment and specific protocol if assigned to duties where there may be risk.
