Work Type : Full-Time

Nature of Work : This is supervisory and administrative work directing the operation of the Trap and Skeet range of the City of Omaha Parks, Recreation, and Public Property Department. Work involves responsibility for planning, organizing, staffing, and implementing trap and skeet activities and events. Work includes extensive public contact and direct supervision of subordinate employees.

Education and Experience : The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and / or experience.

High school diploma or its equivalent

AND

Four years of responsible experience in conducting organized recreational activities

AND

One (1) year of experience operating trap and skeet equipment, including a shotgun.

Special Qualifications : Must be available to work flexible hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license at time of application. Must be certified as a National Rifle Association (NRA) or similar Range Safety Officer (RSO) by the end of the probationary period. Must possess a First Aid / CPR certification by the end of the probationary period.

Pay Range : $49,441.60 with step increases to $73,736.00 Annually

Benefits : Forty-hour work week. Paid leave per year : twelve days vacation; five days management; fifteen days sick; and fourteen holidays. Examination Information : The examination will consist of a structured interview which will be scheduled at a later date. The structured interview is designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The final eligibility list will be assembled from those candidates achieving a passing score of 60% on the structured interview (100% weight).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of, and ability to operate, computers and other technology using standard or customized computer or systems software applications appropriate to the assigned tasks.
  • Knowledge of the philosophy, principles, and practices of public recreation.
  • Knowledge of first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and seizure control, as trauma care related to firearm accidents.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and precautions related to recreation and leisure activities.
  • Knowledge of the sport of trap and skeet shooting and shooting range operations.
  • Knowledge of firearms and firearms safety, with emphasis in shotguns.
  • Knowledge of trap and skeet equipment.
  • Knowledge of Long Range target counting software and hardware.
  • Knowledge of National Skeet Shooters Association scoring software.
  • Knowledge of high school and college trap and skeet tournaments and planning.
  • Knowledge of trap and skeet leagues, clubs, organizations, and associations.
  • Skill in organizing special trap and skeet clubs, shoots, events, and tournaments.
  • Skill in marketing and promoting the range and recruiting new members, clubs, and organizations.
  • Skill in submitting grant requests to national organizations for range improvements.
  • Ability to monitor all activity at the range to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Ability to enforce range rules and regulations in a professional and courteous manner and maintain a safe environment at all times.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to advances in computer, mobile, and electronic device technology and software.
  • Ability to communicate and teach safe shooting techniques to participants.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to accurately maintain basic financial records and reports.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of recreation staff.
  • Ability to inspect facilities for cleanliness, safety, and proper operation.
  • Ability to understand written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and members of the public.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit continuously, and to climb, reach, balance, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, push and pull occasionally.
  • Ability to use up to fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, and up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently to move and transport objects.

  • Oversees the management of the City of Omaha's trap and skeet shotgun range.
  • Plans, arranges, and conducts programmed activities and special events, ensuring that they are conducted safely and according to facility policies for all ages.
  • Ensures the safety of participants utilizing the rifle range and that all participants are following facility rules and regulations.
  • Inspects facility to ensure cleanliness, proper operation, and absence of health or safety hazards.
  • Operates trap and skeet machines.
  • Supervises, selects, trains, schedules, directs and evaluates the work of subordinate staff.
  • Plans, organizes, and schedules annual special events, tournaments, or activities for special interest groups and the general public.
  • Promotes and publicizes programs and activities.
  • Provide basic instructions to participants on how to use the equipment.
  • Collects all facility fees and maintains accurate financial records.
  • Maintains records of receipts, disbursements, and prepares reports for the operation of the facility.
  • Maintains inventory and orders supplies and equipment for the facility.
  • Oversees and operates a concession counter, selling food and beverages, including alcohol, to patrons.
  • Responds to patron inquiries and complaints and explains and enforces facility rules and regulations.
  • Maintains regular job attendance in accordance with a schedule established for the position by the supervisor.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this classification.
