Job Responsibilities

The South Carolina Office of the Comptroller General is seeking a Senior Accountant / Fiscal Analyst in our Statewide Accounting Division. Under general supervision, this position performs and / or coordinates complex professional duties in the creation and maintenance of accounting records, the verification and documentation of financial transactions.

Monitors state agency compliance with accounting policies and procedures, identifying potential issues and taking corrective actions as needed. Reviews workflow documents submitted by state agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. Provides technical assistance to agencies to resolve accounting discrepancies and ensure adherence to standards. Collaborates with staff accountants to verify the accuracy of financial information provided to agencies.

Supports in analyzing financial data and trends to inform decision-making. Assists in maintaining and updating accounting policies and procedures for agency use. Contributes to the preparation of financial reports, including specialized reports as required by regulations or management. Recommends improvements to accounting policies and processes based on agency interactions and analysis.

Coordinates and manages accounting processes for designated agencies, ensuring compliance and providing technical support as needed. Conducts periodic reconciliations of accounts, addressing discrepancies and implementing corrective actions. Assists with audit processes by providing accurate financial data and resolving inquiries. Supports system and process improvements for financial reporting and compliance.

Collects, reviews, and ensures the accuracy of financial data for internal and external reporting requirements. Contributes to the development and implementation of budgetary policies and procedures. Assists management with process and system improvements. Performs other financial and accounting duties as assigned to support agency objectives.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field and professional experience in a related area, such as accounting, auditing or finance. A combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of a bachelor's degree.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of state government fiscal and accounting processes. SCEIS experience, advanced Excel skills, and Microsoft Office applications preferred. Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and agencies.
