Industrial Electrician

Reports to : Electrical Services Supervisor or Project Manager

Position Summary : The Industrial Electrician work will consist of installing, servicing, and repairing wiring, conduits, fixtures, and other electrical devices and systems in an industrial or commercial setting. This individual will have the ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, schematics, and specifications in order to provide troubleshooting and repair services. The Industrial Electrician will also routinely perform preventative maintenance on all equipment and components in order to ensure the continued safe, efficient and effective operations of all equipment and fixtures utilized by the organization. The Industrial Electrician is overseen by the Electrical Supervisor or Project Manager.

1. Install, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices, and equipment.

2. Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, electrical code specifications, and schematics in order to effectively troubleshoot, maintain, and repair equipment.

3. Diagnose, locate the cause of, and repair malfunctioning systems and components using test equipment.

4. Perform preventative maintenance through inspection of electrical systems, equipment, and components.

5. Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records.

6. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.

7. Direct and train other workers and apprentices to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures.

8. Work on other electrical projects as required.

9. Ensure all work performed adheres to all relevant organizational, provincial and federal safety regulations, codes, and specifications.

10. Receives instructions from supervisor.

11. Abides by all OSHA and Houck safety guidelines.

12. Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Competencies :

1. Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications.

2. Perform work in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements.

3. Conduit bending by hand with hand bender.

4. Strong troubleshooting skills.

5. Identification of wire colors.

6. Operation of all power tools, saws, threaders, wire tuggers, hydraulic benders, and knockout punches.

7. Ability to understand and implement NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace.

8. Positive attitude and work ethic.

9. Able to work independently or as an active member of a team.

Physical Demands : Physical demands are based on the ability to perform the following actions throughout an 8-12 hour period of work for a 4-7 day work week.

1. Will be required to regularly stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb stairs and ladders.

2. Will be required to regularly drive.

3. Regular lifting and moving of up to 50 lbs.

4. Exert oneself physically over long periods of time.

5. Bend stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms, and other extremities.

6. Use one's abdominal muscles and lower back to lift continuously over time without fatiguing.

Work Environment :

1. Will be required to work indoors and outdoors; will be exposed to various weather conditions, including both cold and heat.

2. Will be required to regularly work at heights.

3. May be exposed to persistent excessive noise and fumes, gases, or chemicals.

4. Will be required to work around live wires, high voltage, and other electrical hazards.

Position Type : Full-Time

Travel : Travel is regular but primarily local. Some out of state travel required.
