Job description

Overview

Ready to be pushed beyond what you think you're capable of? At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. We're building the emerging onchain platform and the future global financial system. We're seeking a candidate who is passionate about crypto and blockchain technology, eager to leave their mark, and ready to work with high-caliber colleagues while actively seeking feedback to level up.

Our work culture is intense and isn't for everyone. If you want to build the future alongside others who excel in their disciplines, there's no better place to be. In-person participation is required throughout the year; attendance at team and company-wide offsites is expected and supported.

Team and role context

The Analytics Engineering team is part of the Data Engineering organization. We build reliable data sources and tools to enable timely, data-driven decision-making, transforming raw data into actionable insights through pipelines, scalable models, and intuitive tooling with a focus on data quality, reliability, and usability.

What you'll be doing

  • Build and lead the analytics engineering team : hire, mentor, and grow a team that will work closely with finance, CX, HR, compliance, and data science teams.
  • Architect and lead core data modeling initiatives : guide core data models, provide technical leadership, and ensure scalable, reliable, high-impact data foundations.
  • Ensure data quality and reliability : create and enforce testing, monitoring, and validation frameworks to keep data accurate, consistent, and trusted.
  • Develop deep domain expertise : ensure your team understands finance, CX, HR, compliance, and product data, building targeted data marts and tools that solve real business problems.
  • Leverage AI and LLMs : explore how AI can transform analytics and build data foundations optimized for AI-driven analytics.
  • Unlock data value : partner with stakeholders to maximize impact by building scalable models, optimizing pipelines, and integrating cross-product data for better decisions.
  • Directly deliver business impact : oversee dashboards, ad-hoc analytics, and self-service tools to empower product teams.
  • Prioritize outcomes over tools : use the right frameworks and technologies to drive value, developing abstractions, internal data apps, and scalable workflows.

What we look for

We're seeking a hands-on leader to build and manage the Analytics Engineering team supporting finance, CX, HR, compliance and other product teams. You'll build domain-specific data marts, tools, and analytics solutions while staying aligned with data engineering best practices and shaping AI-driven insights.

  • Experienced in building and leading teams : experience hiring and managing data teams (including managers) and inspiring talent.
  • Relentless problem solver : thrives on new and complex challenges, even outside current expertise.
  • AI-forward : excited about LLMs and AI in analytics, applying prompt engineering to improve quality and relevance.
  • Hands-on tech lead : comfortable balancing hands-on work with strategic leadership.
  • Data modeling and tools : expert in data modeling, ETL / ELT, and modern data stack tools (e.g., Airflow, DBT, Snowflake, Hex).
  • Engineering best practices : proficient with Git, CI / CD, modern development workflows, OOP, scalable frameworks, and advanced SQL.
  • Autonomous and accountable : operates with independence and ownership of outcomes.
  • Product and business sense : collaborates with product and data science teams to deliver analytics solutions and align with product goals.
  • Clear and influential communicator : builds relationships across teams and reduces silos.
  • Strong statistical foundation : solid understanding of statistics and probability to support data-driven decisions.
  • Experience in CX and Compliance analytics : partners with customer support and compliance teams to improve operations and customer experience.
  • Pay and benefits

Pay Transparency Notice : The target annual salary for this position ranges from $243,865 to $286,900 USD, with full-time offers including target bonus, target equity, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
