Your Role
As an Occupational Therapist (OT) under the IDEA, you will play a crucial role in helping students thrive in their least restrictive environment. Your expertise will empower students to benefit from their special education programs, focusing on :
- Classroom lessons and activities
- Self-help skills
- Prevocational and vocational activities
- Play, leisure, and social skills
Your ultimate goal? To enhance student participation in the general education curriculum and ensure they can access the school environment and extracurricular activities.
Key Responsibilities
In this dynamic role, you will :
Improve manipulative skills for self-care and academic tasks.Enhance school transitions and participation through environmental accommodations.Support functional postures to boost comfort and engagement.Facilitate independence in feeding and safety.Promote safety in the school environment to minimize injury risks.Increase coordination of eye-hand movements for small muscle tasks.Assess and modify the environment to enhance mobility.Utilize adapted equipment to improve functional use of extremities.Engage students in sensorimotor activities to address motor planning and behavior.Train educational staff in body mechanics and classroom adaptations.Support student independence through assistive technology.Qualifications
To excel in this role, you will need :
Education
A Bachelor, Master, or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.National Board Certification for Occupational Therapy.A current Illinois license to practice, renewed every two years with 24 hours of continuing education.Experience
Experience in evaluating students through observation, therapeutic handling, and collaboration with parents and school teams is essential.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to develop and implement individualized OT intervention strategies.Strong collaboration skills with students, parents, and community agencies.Proficient in documenting services and evaluating student progress.Commitment to professional growth and ethical standards.Experience in supervising occupational therapy assistants.Why Join Us?
