Performs duties as a Dental Supervisor for Partnership Health Center, providing Dental Hygienist services in the PHC Dental Clinic or satellite clinics and serving as a liaison between PHC Leadership and Dental Team members to ensure smooth and efficient practice operations.

Representative Examples of Work

Examples of duties : (The following list is intended to illustrate typical duties, and is neither restrictive nor all-inclusive.)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES : Provides supervision for the dental assistants and hygienists. Delegates work; oversees daily workflow; schedules staff and monitors staff time. Provides training for new hires and regular staff, and maintains training records. Participates in disciplinary actions and hiring decisions.

Actively manage provider, staff, and patient schedules to ensure optimal care experiences and efficient practice operations.

Provides direct patient care including screening and assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, removes calculus and plaque from all surfaces of the teeth, oral hygiene instruction, and other related hygiene, assisting and preventative services.

Maintains patient charts, clinic progress notes, and PHC clinic electronic records.

Coordinates dental referral services between PHC and community providers.

Works with PHC Dental Director to maintain dental supply inventory and manage clinic budget.

Ensures compliance and implementation of applicable regulatory and practice policies and protocols.

Works with PHC Management to coordinate outreach activities.

Conducts and participates in PHC staff meetings. Promotes Team concept, principles of practice. Exemplifies PHC mission and values.

OTHER DUTIES : Performs related work as required or directed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED : Works under the direction of the PHC Dental Director.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED : Serves as a supervisor over hygienists, dental assistants and sterilization technicians. May act as a preceptor for dental hygiene students.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS : Works with the public seeking dental care; works closely with PHC and community health care providers, dental volunteers, all PHC staff and other Health Dept. employees. Acts as an expert in a professional field to inform people of their oral health status and problems and to influence patients to comply with oral health care recommendations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

KNOWLEDGE : Thorough knowledge of dental office and dental hygiene practices, procedures and techniques. Thorough knowledge of dental terminology and charting practices. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of dental health promotion and prevention. Basic knowledge of Federal and OSHA regulations for dental clinics. Basic knowledge of principles and practices of staff supervision. Basic knowledge of County policies, PHC policies, and the provisions of relevant collective bargaining agreements. Working knowledge of Healthcare Professional Basic Life Support (BLS) guidelines. Working knowledge of the principles and practices of HIPAA compliance guidelines. Working knowledge of the PHC Corporate Compliance Guidelines.

SKILLS : Skill in providing dental hygiene care to patients including dental cleanings and patient education. Skill in the use of electronic health records. Skill in the use of office computer technologies and software.

ABILITIES : Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse population. Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary health care team. Ability to gather and analyze quality data and make appropriate recommendations to the dental care team. Ability to effectively communicate in English orally and in writing. Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality. Ability to lead staff in continuous efforts to improve quality productivity and effectiveness. Ability to be culturally sensitive to the needs of the medically indigent. Ability to respond to new client needs. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic clinic environment and to handle multiple demands and responsibilities. Ability to effectively supervise employees.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION : Associate's degree required. Degrees best suited to this position are health care administration, public health, and community health. Requires graduation from an accredited Dental Hygiene Program.

EXPERIENCE : Requires a minimum of two years of experience working as a dental hygienist.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS : Subject to passing a criminal background investigation that will require fingerprinting. Requires a current license to practice dental hygiene in the state of Montana. Requires a current Healthcare Professional BLS certification. Requires immunizations or proof of immunity to certain infectious diseases and a TB test. New employees will be asked to volunteer vaccination status for required vaccines upon hire and will be offered assistance during hiring to receive necessary immunizations. Employees who have not received the vaccines required for their positions or who are unwilling to voluntarily provide vaccination status for required vaccines will receive a reasonable accommodation where such accommodation does not require an undue hardship or endanger the health or safely of any person.

Physical / Environmental Demands

The work requires lifting of supply boxes in the medium range (up to 30 lbs); requires exposure to x-ray equipment. The employee may risk exposure to biohazards (ex. blood and disinfectant chemicals), and communicable diseases. Work is performed walking, bending or standing much of the time. Requires driving to remote satellite clinic locations. May require some hours of work outside normal 8-5 schedule and on days in addition to M-F. This position is not eligible for remote work.

Excellent Medical Health Benefits - Group health benefits, including dental and vision coverage, are available to eligible County employees. The medical health benefits premium is covered for full-time employees. The County contribution is pro-rated on hours paid for part-time employees. The employee pays the premium portion for dependent coverage. Family health benefits coverage is $258.00 per pay period.

Medical deductible is $500 for an individual and $1,000 for a family.

Flexible Benefits Plan - Pre-tax out-of-pocket medical expenses and day care expenses.

Voluntary Life Insurance Coverage, Long and Short-Term Disability, Critical and Accident Insurance are offered through Mutual ofOmaha.

Public Employees Retirement System - Montana public employees of the state, university system, local governments and certain employees of school districts are covered by the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS). New members to the PERS have an opportunity to choose between two retirement plan options : the Defined Benefit Plan or the Defined Contribution Plan.

Sheriffs' Retirement System (SRS) - A public pension plan for all Montana Sheriffs hired after July 1, 1974 and Detention Officers hired after July 1, 2005.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness - Working for Missoula County may qualify you to receive student loan forgiveness. Look to learn more and understand whether you may be eligible.

Supplemental Retirement Benefits are offered through Valic or Nationwide.

Sick Leave - Full-time employees accrue 7.38 hours per month and are eligible to use sick leave once you have been an employee for 90 days. The accrual is pro-rated for part-time employees.

Vacation Leave - Full-time employees accrue 9.24 hours per month and are eligible to use leave after continuous employment for a period of 6 full months. The accrual is pro-rated for part-time employees.

Holidays - The County observes eleven legal holidays in even numbered years and ten legal holidays in odd numbered years.

Paid Parental Leave (PPL)- In recognition of the importance of bonding and care of a newborn child or a child placed for adoption, Missoula County 6 continuous weeks of PPL to eligible full-time employees that have been with the county for 180 days. The hours are pro-rated for part-time employees.
