Principal AI Engineer - Enterprise AI

Principal AI Engineer, Enterprise AI is a senior individual contributor role responsible for architecting and implementing agentic AI workflows that power BetterUp’s next-generation AI-enabled enterprise platform. The position sits at the intersection of applied AI engineering, workflow orchestration, and enterprise integration, bridging large language models (LLMs) such as OpenAI GPT, Anthropic Claude, and Salesforce Agentforce with BetterUp’s proprietary data and systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build agentic AI systems that connect multiple LLMs into cohesive, goal‑oriented workflows supporting enterprise use cases.
• Lead the end‑to‑end development lifecycle of AI workflows, from prototyping and experimentation to production deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
• Integrate AI models with enterprise data and platforms including Salesforce, Workday, and internal APIs to deliver context‑aware, compliant, and secure automation.
• Architect orchestration frameworks that enable dynamic task routing, decision reasoning, and multi‑agent collaboration across systems and teams.
• Establish best practices for AI safety, observability, and governance in collaboration with Security, GRC, and Compliance teams to ensure responsible AI development aligned with emerging standards such as ISO 42001.
• Drive technical alignment between AI experimentation and enterprise production systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance of deployed AI agents.
• Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to identify high‑impact automation opportunities that improve productivity, insight generation, and decision quality across the organization.
• Mentor and guide cross‑functional teams on AI design patterns, prompt engineering, and system integration, fostering a culture of innovation and technical excellence.
• Stay ahead of industry trends in LLMs, retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG), and agentic architectures to continuously evolve BetterUp’s Enterprise AI strategy.

Compensation

The base salary range for this role is $232,000 to $366,000. Benefits and other compensation elements may also be offered.
