Overview :
The IT Intern role is designed to provide students or recent graduates with practical experience in the IT field. Interns will assist with daily IT operations, support project teams, and gain hands-on experience in various IT functions within the organization. This role also serves as an opportunity to learn about the technology systems and processes that support a dynamic business environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities :
This role has no direct reports. The intern will work under close supervision by experienced staff and receive guidance and mentoring throughout the internship.
Duties / Responsibilities :
- Set up and troubleshoot workstation peripherals, including mouse, keyboard, and monitor replacement.
- Prepare desks for new employees, ensuring all required IT equipment is provided and functional.
- Perform system updates, including upgrading computers from Windows 10 to Windows 11, replacing outdated machines, and applying updates to applications such as Autodesk and other user-specific software.
- Conduct basic printer management, including replacing toners, removing waste toner containers, and mapping printers to user devices.
- Handle IT equipment logistics, including transporting and replacing technology between the fleet, J.F. Electric, and Utilitra buildings, and delivering peripheral items (e.g., headphones, chargers) to users.
- Assist with Help Desk overflow by answering calls, creating and assigning tickets, troubleshooting issues when possible, and escalating to the appropriate team members.
- Provide remote or in-person troubleshooting for workstations and peripheral issues, following documented procedures for equipment replacement, driver updates, and configuration changes.
- Manage basic print service tickets, including diagnosing printer connection issues, mapping printers, and confirming print functionality before closing tickets.
- Communicate with users via Teams, email, or phone to coordinate updates, troubleshoot problems, and confirm issue resolution.
- Document work performed in the ticketing system, ensuring accurate time entries and ticket closure.
- Cross-train in all facets of the Division, preparing to fill in for anyone absent and grow in responsibility and scope over time.
The person in this role will uphold the culture of Utilitra, including relationship building with customers as well as general behavior on Utilitra or client premises or at Utilitra-sponsored events.
Requirements / Qualifications :
Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in information technology, computer science, or a related field.Basic understanding of computer systems, network technologies, and software applications.Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.Eagerness to learn and contribute to team success.Physical Requirements :
Ability to sit, stand, and operate computers and other office equipment for extended periods.Capability to lift up to 20 pounds as needed for handling IT equipment and supplies.Travel Requirements :
Minimal. Travel is generally not required for this position, but there may be opportunities to visit local sites for specific projects.
