Job description

Cytotechnologist Profession : Cytotechnologist Specialty : Laboratory Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Day Hours per Shift : Full-time Experience : Minimum 4 years job-related experience License : Cytotechnologist Certifications : ASCP Certification Preferred Must-Have : Minimum 1 year Cytologist experience Description : Under general supervision, directly supervises all functions of the Cytology Section. Responsible for planning, coordinating, staffing, and addressing technical issues of the section. Works with co-workers to efficiently perform cytology duties, including ThinPrep screening, special cytological preparations, and evaluating specimens for interpretation. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions : SPECIAL PROCEDURES : Performs non-GYN screening duties accurately and efficiently. Conducts stat FNA procedures and routine FNA within an acceptable turnaround time. Handles GYN-Automated assisted PAP duties accurately and efficiently. Enters cytological findings in the laboratory computer system and distributes to the assigned pathologist. Follows all regulatory guidelines set by appropriate organizations. Performs embedding, microtomy, special staining, and IHC techniques as needed. CYTOLOGY PREPARATION : Ensures specimens and patients are properly labeled upon receipt in the laboratory. Accurately accesses and enters patient data and specimen type into the laboratory computer system. Processes each specimen maintaining patient identification through the preparation process. Conducts cytology prep as needed. Verifies quality control and patient slides are acceptable before forwarding to the pathologist. PATHOLOGY COMPUTER, PRINCIPLE AND INSTRUMENTATION : Possesses knowledge of all cytology instrumentation and troubleshooting methods. Maintains request and pending logs in the laboratory computer systems. Enters test charges and consultations accurately. Understands coding and billing for cytology. QUALITY MANAGEMENT : Informs supervisors of any quality control or quality assurance issues. Performs maintenance checks on cytology equipment as required. Monitors patient reports and prepares requisitions for consultation while ensuring compliance. Coordinates staffing, vacation, and work duties to maintain workflow. Performs other duties as assigned.
