Hired Housing Attorney : Job Description

Legal Aid Society of San Bernardino (LASSB) is seeking an attorney to practice civil defense for evictions. The work is full-time and hybrid including home, office, and courts. Public interest experience and Spanish is helpful but not required.

LASSB is a legal aid firm with 65 years of service in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Qualifications

  • Licensed and admitted in good standing with the California State Bar
  • Committed to low-income clientele, social change, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
  • Ability to work in a diverse team with community partners under strict deadlines
  • Strong organizational, research, technology, writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of eviction, foreclosure, negotiation, and trial processes is preferred but not required
  • Spanish language preferred but not required

Essential Functions

  • Manage large volumes of advice and document preparation for eviction cases
  • Prepare pleadings, letters, and applications for relief in evictions
  • Negotiate with landlords, opposing counsel, and government agencies
  • Represent clients in court trials, mediation, arbitration, and administrative agencies
  • Provide community outreach and legal education to community partners and the client community
  • Train, mentor, and support volunteer attorneys, paralegals, student interns, and fellows
