Summary
As a Staff Accountant at Balanced Books, LLP, you serve as a technical resource and internal support to our team of bookkeepers. Your primary responsibility is to review bookkeeping work for accuracy, identify and explain errors, and provide constructive feedback to help our team grow and improve. Youll use your knowledge of accounting principles, QuickBooks, and financial reporting standards to answer technical questions, support ongoing learning, and uphold quality control across our client accounts. This role plays a critical part in maintaining our high standards of service and fostering a culture of continuous development and excellence within the firm.
Key Responsibilities
o Prepare and review financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
o Analyze financial data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
o Maintain accurate financial records for reporting.
o Collaborate with teams and clients to verify and ensure timely financial data.
o Review bookkeeping work for accuracy and adherence to best practices.
o Examine payroll reports, sales tax reports, 1099 reports, and business property tax statements for compliance.
o Support bookkeepers with compliance-related questions and help resolve issues before client delivery.
o Conduct periodic reviews to strengthen internal controls and data integrity.
o Ensure compliance with ethical, legal, and industry standards.
o Stay current on regulatory changes, advising clients on risk mitigation.
o Mentor junior accountants and support professional development.
o Foster collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and training opportunities.
o Delegate tasks effectively to optimize workflow and meet deadlines.
o Serve as a resource to internal bookkeepers for resolving accounting challenges and technical questions.
o Assist with troubleshooting client-specific issues related to payroll, sales tax, 1099s, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
o Identify recurring issues in client files and work with the team to improve accuracy and consistency.
o Create and share documentation or mini-trainings to help team members learn from common errors or software updates.
o Participate in team check-ins and collaborate with managers to improve bookkeeping processes and outcomes.
o Provide technical support to the team on accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online, desktop versions, related apps).
o Recommend workflow improvements and assist with internal implementation of software tools and features.
o Support setup of new client files, ensuring chart of accounts, integrations, and automations are configured correctly.
o Help troubleshoot client system issues in coordination with the assigned bookkeeper when necessary.
o Excellent Communication : Strong written and verbal skills for effective interaction at all levels.
o Leadership : Motivates teams, fosters collaboration, and guides client management best practices.
o Technical Support : Acts as a go-to expert for accounting principles, software, and troubleshooting unusual entries.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, financial reporting, or compliance roles.
Experience with bookkeeping, financial statement review, payroll quarterly reports, sales tax reports, 1099 reports, and business property tax statements.
Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software (QBO and QB Desktop)
Proficiency in MS word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a client-facing or consulting environment.
Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
Experience in a bookkeeping firm, outsourced accounting service, or public accounting setting.
Previous experience reviewing financial records for businesses in multiple industries.
Knowledge of financial process improvement and internal controls best practices.
Experience mentoring junior accountants or leading a small accounting team.
Ability to present financial data to non-accounting professionals in an understandable way.
