Job Description

Why Choose Candor?

At Candor, we’re not just a company—we’re a mission-driven community of educators passionate about making a real difference. Here, your expertise isn’t just appreciated—it’s celebrated. We believe you can serve students meaningfully without sacrificing your work-life balance. Join a supportive team where your growth, well-being, and success take center stage.

What We’re Looking For:

Are you a passionate Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing ready to empower students and schools? Here’s what you’ll need to join our team:

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a closely related field is required. A master’s degree in Education for Students with Hearing Impairments or a similar area is preferred but not required.

  • Certification: A valid Texas Educator Certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) is required. Additional certifications in related areas, such as Auditory-Verbal Therapy, are a plus but not mandatory.

  • Specialized Knowledge: Familiarity with special education laws, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and understanding of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process are essential.

  • Language Proficiency: Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required. Bilingual skills in additional languages are preferred but not mandatory.

  • Additional Requirements: CPR certification is preferred.

Your Role:

As a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, you will play a crucial role in empowering students who are deaf or hard of hearing to achieve academic success, foster independence, and gain equitable access to their educational environment. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop Individualized Plans: Collaborate with IEP teams to create and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address the specific communication and learning needs of students with hearing impairments.

  • Provide Specialized Instruction: Deliver targeted instruction in areas such as language development, auditory skills, and social-emotional learning, utilizing strategies that align with each student’s unique needs.

  • Monitor Student Progress: Collect and analyze data to track students’ academic and developmental progress, adjusting instructional approaches as needed to meet IEP goals.

  • Collaborate with Teams: Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, speech and language pathologists, audiologists, and families to ensure a cohesive support system for students across all educational settings.

  • Promote Accessibility: Advocate for and implement accommodations, modifications, and assistive technologies, such as FM systems, captioning, and visual aids, to ensure equitable access to learning opportunities.

  • Support Transition Goals: Prepare students for life beyond school by teaching skills such as self-advocacy, effective communication, and the use of adaptive technologies for post-secondary education, vocational settings, and independent living.

  • Foster Independence: Develop strategies to enhance students’ independence and self-confidence in school, home, and community settings, including teaching self-advocacy and problem-solving skills.

  • Promote Safety: Ensure students’ safety by addressing accessibility needs and teaching essential skills for navigating their environments effectively.

Your expertise will help students overcome barriers, fostering growth and success in their educational and personal journeys.

Why You’ll Love Working With Us:

At Candor, we know that great educators deserve great rewards. Here’s what we offer:

  • Competitive Pay: Starting at $50.00 per hour—get compensated for every minute you work.

  • Flexibility: Choose a schedule that works for you—full-time, part-time, or as-needed roles available.

  • Comprehensive Benefits: Health, dental, vision, and life insurance plans designed with you in mind.

  • Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with matching contributions to help you secure your future.

  • Professional Growth: Access mentorship opportunities and reimbursement for professional development.

  • Bonuses: Earn up to $1,000 in referral bonuses for bringing great talent to our team.
