The unit consists of 34 beds with an average daily census of 32 patients. The typical patient population includes conditions such as ESRD, CHF, pneumonia, sickle cell crisis, and diabetes / DKA. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1 : 5 during the day shift and 1 : 6 during the night shift, with a critical surge ratio of 1 : 7-8. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) will provide support with a ratio of 1 : 12. Support staff includes a Charge Nurse, a dedicated Pharmacist, two Case Managers, and a Nursing Educator. Telemetry monitoring is available 24 / 7, and there will be access to an IV / VAT team. Technological resources include an Electronic Medical Record system, IV pumps, and communication devices.
