Cost Accountant
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant with a strong background in manufacturing and government accounting to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will bring at least seven years of cost accounting experience , hands-on SAP expertise , and exposure to FAR / DFARS regulations .
This position requires a detail-oriented professional who can collaborate across finance, operations, and production to improve cost visibility, ensure compliance, and drive process efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and analyze standard cost systems , overhead rates, and inventory valuation.
Perform cost variance analysis across materials, labor, and overhead.
Support month-end and year-end close , including journal entries, reconciliations, and reporting.
Prepare detailed job cost reports, production cost summaries, and variance analyses for management.
Partner with operations and engineering to identify cost drivers and improve efficiency.
Ensure compliance with FAR, CAS, and internal accounting controls .
Manage and validate cost data within SAP , maintaining accuracy across production and financial modules.
Support audits and cost accounting reviews as required.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance ; CPA or CMA preferred.
7+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment .
Strong working knowledge of SAP (costing and inventory modules).
Experience with government accounting standards (FAR / DFARS) .
Advanced Excel and ERP reporting skills.
Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational abilities.
