About the Nurse Manager Position :
Maintains uncompromising quality of nursing care. Responsible for personnel, management, and coordination of nursing service activities for the scheduled working shift, in accordance with established philosophy, objectives, and policies of the facility to ensure safe and efficient resident care. Relates effectively with other shifts for continuity of care and, in the absence of the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing, takes charge.
- Maintains current knowledge of Federal, State, and local standards and regulations for long-term care.
- Assists in evaluating and formulating the policies, procedures, decisions, and solutions related to nursing services.
- Responsible for all activities, documentation, monthly reports, and nursing care for the unit which they manage.
- Responsible for informing the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) or the Director of Nursing (DON) of any issues involving nursing activities, documentation, and unusual events of all shifts.
- Continuously reviews nursing staffing patterns, checks attendance, and revises the daily staff schedule as necessary.
- Make recommendations to the ADON / DON regarding employee performance evaluations. When necessary, participate in the investigation of employee incidents and the counseling of employees.
- Assists in orientation programs for new employees.
- Assists in supervising the in-service education program and follows up to evaluate the effectiveness and to determine the need for revision of methods and materials.
- Investigates and report complaints.
- Responsible for maintaining the nursing floor according to facility, state, and Federal DOH standards. The Nurse Manager takes the first line of responsibility for maintaining the unit's readiness for a DOH survey which can occur at any time; thus, their efforts must reflect actions that will ensure excellent survey results.
- On-call : Must be accessible via company cell phone on scheduled weekends / holidays. The manager is the first contact for nursing staff in need of instruction or guidance. The manager is responsible for managing all circumstances pertaining to the nursing department and resident care and will contact the ADON and / or DON as needed.
