Growing direct annuity writerseeks experienced Statutory / Investment Accountant to join finance team. Role will be responsible for reporting on financial activities related to the investment portfolio of a Life and Annuity Insurance Company, maintaining investment records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Will report to the CFO and collaborate with internal / external stakeholders including portfolio managers / auditors / regulatory bodies. Responsibilities :
Investment Accounting : maintain accurate records for diverse range of assets (including publicly traded fixed income and private lender originated mortgages / loans); monitor daily investment activity; ensure timely posting of trades / dividends / interest / other income to general ledger and investment reporting system; reconcile investment transactions with custodians / PMs to ensure complete / accurate / timely picture of portfolio; support development of long / short-term cash forecasts; ad hoc financial support for CFO
Financial Reporting : prepare monthly GAAP and statutory financial reporting for investment portfolio in compliance with legal / regulatory requirements; analyze / report on portfolio performance / valuations / trends
Compliance / Regulatory Reporting : ensure compliance with accounting standards / industry specific regulations; stay updated on changes in accounting standards, regulatory frameworks and financial reporting requirements
Process Improvement : identify opportunities to improve accounting processes / controls / systems related to investment activities; work closely with investment team to align accounting practices with business objectives
Requirements :
CPA and Bachelor's degree in Accounting / Finance / Economics / related
5+ years of GAAP and statutory reporting experience with focus on investments; working knowledge of derivatives strongly preferred; CFA a plus
Strong knowledge of regulatory framework for investment accounting principles / practices; knowledge of STAT, GAAP and relevant regulatory requirements
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with accounting software / investment management systems
Must be organized with attention to detail, independent / self-directed with high level of initiative and have strong time management skills
Ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly / concisely
The base salary for this role will be in the range of $150-$175k depending on experience, credentials, and key qualifications.
