POLICE COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER

Police Officer

Under supervision, the role involves assisting in the provision of a variety of police services including report writing, public counter requests, community programs, workshops, and lectures in crime prevention areas such as burglary prevention, neighborhood watch, home security, rape prevention, and shoplifting. The position also includes performing office support duties, preparing and distributing crime prevention materials, and performing related work as required.

Knowledge of basic office operations, community organizations, public relations programs, and computer operations is required. The ability to meet the public, communicate information, operate audio-visual equipment, understand and follow directions, prepare reports and presentations, and establish cooperative working relationships is essential.

Training and experience that provide the necessary knowledge and abilities are qualifying. Education such as a high school diploma or G.E.D. and previous work experience involving public contact and basic office support duties are desirable. Special requirements include possession of a California driver's license, successful completion of a POST certified PC 832 course, and completion of Baton and Pepper Spray training.

Candidates will be invited to an oral board interview. Those who pass the interview will undergo a full background investigation, including a polygraph and medical exam, and a Command Oral Exam.
