Job descriptionPerforms all Essential Functions of a Medical Laboratory Technician II Leads departmental projects Trains students and new team members, and is a resource for other technical team members Assesses competency of team members as assigned Monitors compliance to accreditation and regulatory checklist items. Serves as an escalation for issues that arise with team members, and internal and external clients Ensures quality control and quality assurance program appropriate for the testing performed and that parameters for acceptable levels of analytical performance are maintained throughout the entire testing process through pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases Contributes to the policy and procedure development Ability to keep organized, work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task Displays initiative to perform job duties Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients, customers, co-workers. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel applications Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members and excellent organizational and time management skills Knowledge of standard laboratory policies and procedures, safety practices, and laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Knowledge of regulatory standards and a good understanding of laboratory operations Initiates, solves problems, and troubleshoots issues independently. Works in multiple laboratory sections / disciplines independently (3 or more). Displays ability to effectively train students and new team members Good understanding of laboratory operations and is an expert in one laboratory section / discipline and familiarity with Laboratory Information Systems Maintains knowledge of relevant checklists through active participation in inspection process and understands test validation methods and participates in the process Effectively addresses issues when escalated by team members Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace. Associate's Degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology (Required) 3+ years experience in a highly complex laboratory setting within defined clinical disciplines i.e. Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Molecular, Microbiology, Histology, Cytology, etc. (Required) Blood Bank experience preferred Medical Lab Technician (MLT-ASCP) MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent required (Required Upon Hire) Standing Occasionally Walking Occasionally Sitting Constantly Lifting Rarely up to 20 lbs Carrying Rarely up to 20 lbs Pushing Rarely up to 20 lbs Pulling Rarely up to 20 lbs Climbing Rarely up to 20 lbs Balancing Rarely Stooping Rarely Kneeling Rarely Crouching Rarely Crawling Rarely Reaching Rarely Handling Occasionally Grasping Occasionally Feeling Rarely Talking Constantly Hearing Constantly Repetitive Motions Frequently Eye / Hand / Foot Coordination Frequently 10%
