Basic Function:

Responsible for design, development and documentation of fiber optic components and devices to meet customer specified requirements. Responsible for new product designs and existing product maintenance for AIS by working from customer drawings, company drawings, vendor drawings or specifications. Integrate physical design requirements and manufacturing aspects to produce designs that meet all applicable requirements for the form, fit and function.

Performs specific job responsibilities:

  • Conforms to cost and time considerations estimated for the product.
  • Prepare drawings and additional technical documents as required within the OCC quality assurance policy and procedure.
  • Assist New Product Development Manager with ECO/ECN changes, tooling and prototypes and works with current software to document.
  • Assist manufacturing through designing tooling, test, and assembly fixtures as required.
  • Support product, change management and customer inquiries during product life cycle.
  • Identify and select materials for production and create bills of materials (BOM).
  • Maintains documentation for ISO requirements.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years of experience or Masters and 4+ years of experience.

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge:

This position requires excellent computer skills and experience using Microsoft Windows applications and 3D Solid Modeling software. Pay close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to express oneself clearly and concisely. Must be capable of solving technical problems and providing sound solutions. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Ability to organize, complete tasks and manage time. Ability to read and understand product design drawings, schematics, and technical drawings. Use precision measurement tools and devices such as Optical Light Source, Power Meters, Network Analyzers, Time Domain Reflectometers. Experience using an ERP system such as Syspro preferred.

Working Conditions: This is a sedentary job that requires vision sufficient for completing quality work, reading comprehension and computer use. This work also requires hearing sufficient for normal workplace conversation and training. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Significant testing requires sufficient manual dexterity. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with a disability to perform the essential functions. Specific vison abilities required by this job include color vision.
