NICU RN Job Details Location : Abilene, Texas 79606 Healthcare Setting : Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Employment Type : Travel Nursing Contract Start Date : December 1, 2025 End Date : March 2, 2026 Assignment Length : 13 weeks Shift : Night shifts, 3x12-hour (7 : 00 PM - 7 : 00 AM) Hours per Week : 36 Orientation : 16 hours Weekend Requirement : 5 weekend days per 6-week schedule Local Rule : Candidates must reside at least 150 miles from the facility Estimated Weekly Salary Range : $1700 - $1820 NICU Registered Nurse Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Texas or compact state) Minimum 2 years of recent NICU RN experience First-time travel nurses welcome BLS (Basic Life Support) certification NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification STABLE certification Ability to float to Mother Baby or North Campus units as needed Preferred : Experience with Altera charting system Must complete required labs within 72 hours of offer acceptance Flu vaccine required (medical / religious exemptions considered) NICU RN Responsibilities Provide high-quality, compassionate nursing care to neonates in the NICU Administer blood products, antibiotics, antivirals, and steroids Perform APGAR scoring and assist with lumbar punctures Attend high-risk deliveries and deliver developmental care Manage oxygen delivery systems, bubble CPAP, HFNC, and high-frequency ventilation Care for neonates with respiratory distress syndrome, meconium aspiration, and neonatal abstinence syndrome Calculate neonatal medication dosages and maintain IVs Perform phlebotomy, suctioning (ETT, NT), and administer surfactants Monitor thermoregulation and manage UAC / UVC catheters Educate and support families throughout their NICU experience Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, and social services Maintain flexibility to float to other clinical units as needed Experience the professional growth and rewarding impact of a travel nursing job in Abilene, Texas.
