What is Camp Indy?

Camp Indy is an outdoor adventure day camp! It is split up into four different age groups, Junior Camp (5-6), 7-9 Camps, 10-12 Camps, and Scions (13-15). 7-9 and 10-12 age groups are broken out into individual “speciality camps” that campers register for. Specialty camps operate as their own independent camp for a portion of the day, and then combine with the rest of the age camps for group activities. Counselors will be assigned weekly to a specialty camp. They will be responsible for those campers, as well as scheduling and leading activities for that camp.

Camp Indy is a ministry of Horizon Christian Fellowship of Indianapolis, whose goal is JESUS - knowing God and making Him known. Our mission is that Christ be glorified, the lost are won, believers are equipped for faithful service, and the kingdom of God is expanded!

Camp Indy is an outdoor adventure day camp that provides an exciting, challenging, fun, and growing atmosphere for staff and campers to fall in love with the God of all creation and to see the Scriptures come alive and become real in their lives.

Camp Indy’s Goals

It is the responsibility of each Camp Indy employee to:

1. Articulate the love of Christ to a group of children, both verbally and non-verbally
2. Be a Christ-like example to staff, parents, and the community through work with children
3. Help provide a fun, safe, and loving environment for children to grow and learn

Qualifications

• Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
• Desire and ability to work with children outdoors
• Ability to relate to one’s peer group
• Ability to accept supervision and guidance
• Ability to lead and/or assist in teaching an activity
• Strong character, integrity, and adaptability

Responsible to

• Camp Director (CD)
• Assistant Director(s) (AD)

Specific Responsibilities Relating To:
Campers

• Get to know and minister to your campers, as a group and individually
• Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem-solving in a group
• Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual learns and achieves valuable lessons during camp
• Help each camper meet camp goals, keep the guidelines, and learn about Jesus Christ, as established by Camp Indy for camper development
• Provide supervision and leadership for the campers during all scheduled camp hours
• Follow the Camp Indy plan of discipline
• Have fun!

Schedule

• Plan and lead various specialty camps, providing teaching, supervision, and fun
• Be available for the following before and after-hour events:
  • Weekly staff meeting, morning devotions, camp overnights, early/late care, and any other requested duty assigned by leadership staff
• Be on time for each scheduled camp activity
• Report any problems, conflicts, or desired changes to the AD and/or CD

Paperwork

• Fill out appropriate paperwork relating to camper information and incidents
• Keep camper information sheets confidential
• Turn in camper weekly attendance sheet to the AD’s box at the end of the day on Friday

Lifeguard:

Qualifications

• Current lifeguard certification
• Have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
• Desire and ability to work with children outdoors
• Strong character, integrity, and adaptability
• Able to initiate and complete defined daily tasks

Responsible to

• Camp Director (CD)
• Assistant Directors(s) (AD)

Specific Responsibilities Relating ToPool Maintenance

• Keep pool deck clean and clear from trash and unnecessary or forgotten items
• Place forgotten items in lost and found
• Clear out pool filters on deck frequently
• Keep cabinet organized and clean
• Report any problems or anything that seems unusual to the Camp Director
• Set up pool ropes

Schedule

• Change at the pool 15 minutes before camp swim time begins
• Be flexible and timely to scheduled times to guard

Campers

• Open the door to let campers on deck only when there is at least one counselor and one lifeguard on deck
• Report camper misbehavior to camper’s counselor

Guidelines in Discipline and Safety

• Be alert and on your guard at all times while on the pool deck
• Maintain all Camp Indy pool rules
• Faithfully use your whistle
• Be consistent in upholding the rules
• Act immediately on any discipline situation
• Address specific violations
• Professionally advise Camp Director as to whether pool is safe to swim (i.e. clarity of water/weather)
