Job description

Job Summary

Completes work assigned to the stormwater services division. Tasks performed are generally associated with installation and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure, including but not limited to drainage structures, pipes, stormwater treatment practices, and drainage swales / ditches. Assists in the installation and maintenance of Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control (EPSC) measures.

Examples Of Duties

Performing work within the City's stormwater services division with the goal of maintaining City infrastructure and ensuring compliance with State-issued stormwater permits and local requirements.

Serving as crew leader and oversees work when the stormwater foreman is unavailable.

Operating a variety of heavy equipment and other city equipment and vehicles, including vacuum / jet truck and street sweeper.

Operating small equipment, including but not limited to lawn mowers, weed whackers, and chainsaws.

Maintaining and installing stormwater drainage infrastructure.

Collaborating with city personnel to ensure that the stormwater collection system operates properly and in compliance with State and city requirements.

Utilizing technology (including but not limited to computers, tablets, GPS devices, pipe camera equipment, etc.) to locate and inspect all components of the stormwater system.

Collaborating with other city personnel to ensure that appropriate EPSC practices are in place at construction sites.

Performing duties in accordance with established safety and operational procedures and techniques, requiring independent judgment in operating equipment.

Ensuring time and work are accounted for on work orders.

Responding to emergency situations, as necessary.

Making frequent contact with other city personnel related to stormwater division activities and with the public. Ensuring that a high level of service and professionalism is maintained during these interactions.

Operating various snow removal equipment and participating in snow and ice management activities.

Assisting other public works divisions with repair or maintenance situations as needed.

Supporting the coordination of activities between all the staff and other departments within the City and performing other necessary tasks or functions as necessary to accomplish city and department goals and objectives.

Minimum Required Qualifications

High school diploma, one year of operating equipment related to stormwater utilities, two years in related construction experience in public highway maintenance and repair, including stormwater facilities, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must have a valid Vermont CDL with tanker endorsement.

Supplemental Information

Possesses basic computer skills required to perform essential functions.

Working knowledge of NPDES Phase II and OSHA regulations or demonstrated ability to learn and acquire such knowledge.

Demonstrated ability to follow standard safety practices.

Demonstrated ability to establish working relationships with employees and the public.

Demonstrated ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.

Demonstrated ability to motivate employees to work effectively.

Working knowledge of vehicles and equipment associated with utility operations.
