The Engineer II’s purpose is to solve technical problems, develop applicable documentation, and supervise all assigned resources to support the assigned project. The Engineer II assists the Senior Engineers, Engineering Supervisors and Project Engineers in determining the technical requirements of the project, defining resource requirements to achieve schedule and budget commitments, and solving technical issues as they arise within the field of competence.

  • Work independently in solving technical issues
  • Plan, estimate, schedule and monitor assigned work and the work of assigned resources
  • Track and report progress to budget and schedule commitments
  • Supervise assigned resources
  • Facilitate communications of issues and solutions throughout MMC
  • Prepare, check and issue professional quality deliverables
  • Interpret contract requirements
  • Develop contract change documents to support the project needs
  • May be required to define, track and control subcontractor activities
  • Abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures.
  • May be required to lead or participate in product improvement projects

LABOR CATEGORY - SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Engineer II may directly supervise 2 to 8 employees. Supervisory responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the Company’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems. The Engineer II also demonstrates leadership skills that align with the mission, vision, and values of the Company

Education Requirements :

  • Bachelor’s Degree (4 Year Degree) in field of competence (or equivalent) or High School Diploma / GED and 13 years of equivalent experience.
  • 4 years of experience of increasing responsibility in the engineering field of competence.
  • Supervisory experience desired.
  • Six Sigma or LEAN training desired.

  • Position Summary : TMMG is seeking a qualified Naval Architect – DDAM Shock Analyst (FFG(X) Program) with expertise in shock qualification analysis to support the Future Guided Missile Frigate (FFG(X)) program at Fincantieri Marinette Marine (FMM). The candidate will provide onsite support in Marinette, WI for 1-3 months, followed by remote work. The primary focus is to conduct NAVSEA-mandated shock analysis of shipboard equipment foundations weighing over 150 pounds, ensuring survivability in underwater explosion environments in compliance with MIL-S-901D and DDS-072 using Dynamic Design Analysis Method (DDAM).

    Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform DDAM-based shock qualification analysis of structural foundations, pipe hangers, and critical equipment supports exceeding 150 lbs, per MIL-S-901D and NAVSEA DDS-072.
  • Build and run finite element models (FEM) in Siemens FEMAP, applying appropriate geometry, material properties, boundary conditions, and shock load vectors.
  • Simulate underwater explosion (UNDEX) loading per NAVSEA-approved methods, including DDAM, and validate structural response against acceptance criteria from NAVSEA Design Practices and Criteria Manual (T9070-AJ-DPC-120 / 3010).
  • Evaluate yielding, buckling, and response spectra results and recommend structural improvements where needed.
  • Collaborate with shipyard and TMMG engineering teams to resolve issues raised during design reviews, ship inspections, or trial card adjudication.
  • Prepare detailed engineering documentation including :
  • FEA input and output data sets
  • NAVSEA-compliant analysis reports
  • Spreadsheets summarizing model inputs and acceptance margins
  • ShipConstructor-compatible 3D CAD files of approved foundation modifications

  • Summary tables identifying compliance, exceptions, and engineering recommendations
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • B.S. or M.S. in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in shipboard structural analysis or Navy ship design
  • Prior hands-on experience conducting DDAM shock analysis using FEMAP or equivalent
  • Strong understanding of Navy technical documentation, MIL-STDs, and NAVSEA procedures
  • Familiarity with shipyard modeling tools (e.g., ShipConstructor) and classification society rules (e.g., ABS NVR)
  • Additional Requirements :

  • U.S. Citizenship required for access to ITAR-controlled and potentially classified information
  • Ability to work onsite for the first 60 days in Marinette, WI, then transition to remote support
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment supporting mission-critical Navy platforms.
