This position offers the opportunity to lead complex, high-end landscape architecture projects within a studio focused on large-scale international hospitality work. The Sr. Associate Landscape Architect will be responsible for guiding early-phase design direction, managing multidisciplinary teams, mentoring junior staff, and supporting the overall success of project delivery—from concept through construction documentation. The role involves a balance of design leadership, project coordination, and collaboration across internal teams and external consultants. There is also the opportunity to contribute to business development efforts and participate in shaping the studio's continued growth. This role offers the ability to shape luxury landscape environments across international hospitality destinations while growing into a key leadership position within a full-service design studio.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct early-stage landscape design and establish the creative foundation for projects
- Oversee design teams through concept development, schematic design, and design development
- Mentor junior designers, providing technical feedback and professional guidance
- Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables in coordination with internal teams and subconsultants
- Represent the studio in client meetings and project presentations
- Review and contribute to proposals, fee structures, and project scopes
- Coordinate closely with architects, engineers, and related disciplines to ensure cohesive project execution
- Support quality assurance and design integrity throughout all project phases
- Travel, as needed, for site visits, client meetings, and project charrettes (up to two weeks at a time)
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture from an accredited institution7–10 years of experience in landscape architecture, with a strong portfolio of large-scale or hospitality-focused workDemonstrated experience leading early design phases with a clear, creative point of viewFamiliarity with local and regional construction practices and their impact on designStrong proficiency in design and documentation tools, including AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, Rhino, SketchUp, and BIMEffective communication and team management skillsProfessional licensure or working toward licensure with ASLA, ULI, or an equivalent international organizationComfortable working independently while contributing to a collaborative team cultureAbility to work from downtown Kansas City officeCompensation & Benefits
