Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Med / Surg Acute Care Unit position requiring an MT or compact RN license and strong broad medical-surgical experience.
Responsibilities
Work in a hospital-based 40-bed Acute Care Unit with medically stable adult patientsPatient types include COPD, CHF, emphysema, CAD, diabetes, alcohol withdrawal, dementia, kidney failure with dialysis, sepsis, UTIs, GI bleeds, wounds, and some surgical casesStroke certified unit with both medical and some surgical patient care responsibilitiesPatient ratio is typically 1 : 5 to 1 : 6Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts (1930-0700), including 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week periodFloating required to Med / Surg combo units, Surgical and Oncology, ED Boarders, and Progressive Care Unit for overflow careUses Meditech EMR; Baxter IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Voalte communication devicesCentralized Care View video monitoring technology is utilizedStaff support includes 6-8 RNs per shift, 4-6 CNAs per shift, and access to hospitalists and RT 24 / 7Expected to provide bedside shift reports, utilize whiteboards, and conduct hourly roundingRequires flexibility, teamwork, and dedication to patient careOne day of general orientation with Meditech training and a 12-hour unit orientation, including possible cross-training to the 2nd Surgical UnitHoliday coverage required, with 1-2 holidays over the winter per contractPre-approved time off (RTO) allowed before hire, but must commit to three 12-hour shifts per weekDress code requires clean scrubs with no specific color and no restrictions on hair color, tattoos, or piercingsFree parking with shuttle service available during winter monthsPotential for contract extension or full-time conversionRequirements
Active MT or compact state RN licenseMinimum of 1 year recent Med / Surg nursing experience with broad skill setCurrent BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications are requiredProficiency in medication management (including epidural and PCA), drain and ostomy care, chest tubes, wound care, and post-surgical recoveryAbility to work with Meditech EMR and Baxter IV pumpsFirst-time travelers considered if meeting experience requirementsBenefits
