Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Food Programs Supervisor at the Aggie Compass Basic Needs Center, the Direct Food Programs Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operations of Aggie Compass direct food programs and serves as an advisor to the ASUCD Pantry.

The coordinator oversees programmatic and operational functions of programs that provide food directly to students experiencing food insecurity. This includes managing student staff, product and inventory management, sourcing and distributing food, and ensuring smooth daily operations. The position also provides guidance and support to student staff at the ASUCD Pantry, an adjacent student-run food program.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and / or certification if required of the position

  • Required to hold a valid California driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies / procedures, and / or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Bachelor's degree (E.g. Food service, hospitality, CIA) and / or relevant experience.
  • 2-4 years in food service, program management, hospitality or transferable experience.
  • Experience with program development, management, and evaluation, including conducting student needs assessments.
  • Background in restaurant, food service, or food truck operations, with knowledge of dining service standards such as PCI compliance, point-of-sale systems, cash handling, food handling, storage, quality control, and health / safety.
  • Experience managing budgets, developing policies and procedures, and interpreting complex regulations to create guidelines.
  • Strong writing skills to prepare correspondence, reports, policies, procedures, agreements, training documents, and performance evaluations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ServSafe Manager Certified
  • Master's degree (E.g. Food service, hospitality, CIA) and / or relevant experience.
  • 5-10 years in food service, program management, hospitality or transferable experience.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring students, interns, or volunteers.
  • Experience working in higher education with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills, with the ability to support student leadership.
  • Interest in food systems and food security.
  • Working knowledge of food safety standards and the California Retail Food Code.

  • Department Overview

    The Basic Needs Department serves as the central hub for addressing essential student needs, providing comprehensive support through a combination of physical and virtual services. As a department, we oversee the Basic Needs Center and coordinate campus-wide efforts to address food security, housing stability, financial wellness, and other essential resources, including health care, mental well-being, transportation, personal hygiene, and emergency assistance for students with dependents.

    The Basic Needs team is committed to taking action toward community and belonging through prevention, intervention and emergency relief efforts. Services include walk-in and virtual support, case management, emergency and long-term food assistance, support for unhoused students, and financial resources, empowering students to navigate systemic barriers and continue their education with respect and dignity.
